I'd guess any chance of Sam Hird joining Rotherham is now dead and buried. And despite all Evans' customary bluff and bluster ('Pablo turned down offers from other League One clubs to sign') you've gotta wonder if their interest in our transfer listed yet in-form center back waned 'cos they simply couldn't afford him. No one will convince me the free agent Mills' re-signing for them is anything but a cut-price, perhaps even desperate move by a Millers' outfit who perhaps aren't as flush as they'd have us believe.

Just witness them trying to flog advertising space at the 'Tardis in reverse' (didn't that New York stadium seem far smaller on the inside than the outside?) on their official forum.

On a different tack, I had to laugh when I heard Evans' rhetoric after Villa's comfortable victory over his side in the League Cup. 'Anyone not knowing who was who would've struggled to work out which was the Premiership outfit' he opined, 'it was like a Premiership game' he continued, before claiming, bizarrely, 'we created the better half-chances (?) in the first half hour'.

Contrast all that with Tony Cottee on Sky, who pretty much told everyone it was one way traffic after one of Villa's inferior 'half chances' opened the scoring.

So much for Arnason being the best CH at the club.

Thinks being the operative word. As a fan I would rather hear my manager speak the truth, ala Paul Cook, than the bovine excretia the fat bloke comes out with.

Agree completely but every time you hear him on Radio Sheff he seems to be rolling out all the cliches that managers trot out when they are trying to keep fans onside. All the stuff about in talks about a championship striker that seemed to happen every week or making out they were the better team each time.

You know it, I know it, in fact every balanced and realistic person knows it.

Unfortunately that discounts many Wednesday-esque Millers.

Sam Hird was going to Rotherham it was all sorted and done, spoke to the bloke who told me since, you will have to trust me on who I spoke to but Sam Hird is staying to prove a point and at the moment is the first time he has been happy which I'm over the moon about.

I hope he stays. Hird looks physically stronger and fitter this season, it would be a shame to see him leave.
If only....

I think the same but is there room with a fully fit Evo and Coops?

Why do clubs continue to offer him & the likes of Westley jobs?

As a Chairman or Player, you would want to stay well clear! I remember Barrie Hubbard commenting on Roy McFarland's appointment up here, he said, we wanted to appoint someone who would give us some much needed credibility in the football world. You can only think that appointing people like Evans has the opposite effect.

I hate to say it because I detest the man and his team but they seem to be making a better go of L1 than we did. He talks like a toohat but he is successful maybe that's why he was appointed

This is gonna come in for some criticism but I think that Hird is starting to show himself the more accomplished player than Cooper and if I was the manager(thank god I'm not) I would have Hird alongside Evatt.
I just think that Hird would benefit more from the experience of Evatt.

Hird has improved massively, however Cooper would get the nod over him every day of the week for me.

I remember that comment, too. I think it was redress the balance in the previous appointment - made by Hubbard. It was odd that Hubbard made it publicly as the previous manager to McFarland was Dave Rushbury, our former physio. The Derbyshire Times also had some cringeworthy comments from the board, like "Dave's been around football a long time and has a feel for what to do" and "He's watched other managers here". At the time we did lose a lot of face, especially from the clubs surrounding us.

you misunderstood. It was a reference back to the shambles created by darren brown and the negative impression that gave the football world in general of our club

Not for me mate I'm afraid he is a young kid learning his trade, he will improve greatly with Hird and Evatt by his side but we are talking about a player with an injury so why rush him back anyway ? Hird is proving his class so far and long may it continue

Hubbard's appointment of McFarland might've carried more credibility if he hadn't been a mate of a mate. Or if the former England captain, proven at every level of the game, hadn't had his budget cut instead of being supported after guiding us into the play off zone.

I actually quite liked McFarland and thought he did a more than fair job under the circumstances.

We'd all love to see the likes of McSheffrey or Woods sign. However given he's not only become the player we thought we'd originally signed but offers cover at RB and as a holding midfielder, Hird staying might be a blessing in disguise.

As over the moon I am that evatt has returned and even though he could possibly be the best defender in the lower leagues, he has no Devine right to walk into the team. Paul cook has said many times if your playing well you keep the shirt. If hird and cooper are playing really well, were not concedingany goals and the team are winning, it might be evatt who has to be patient and wait for an opportunity.
