Was Ernie’S Heading Ability As Good As That Of Top Flight Strikers?

Having referred to Ernie in the Caldwell thread it made me think was his heading ability top flight level? Obviously the rest of his play was nowhere near that level so it is purely academic, but based on heading alone (and he was damn good) would it have passed muster in the top flight? I reckon it would because his positional play was decent too.
Of course heading isn’t anywhere near as fashionable and valued as it was owing to the health risks, but will always play a part in the game.

You've forgotten a few Dave, Derek Dougan, Allan Gilzean, and Peter Osgood. You could add John Charles to that list, although his best days had gone when he came back from Italy he was still a force to be reckoned with.

What on earth is this?
The Harry Kane a few weeks back against Leverkusen in the Champs League was an absolute thing of beauty. In a lesser game, Crouch scored a cracker at the weekend. Give me a bullet header over a 30 yard screamer every day of the week.

Haven't any of you read about its connection with dementia? There is little doubt now that it contributes. Only a few weeks ago Dean Windass who has been diagnosed with dementia only still in his 50s says he wished he had never headed the ball during training and only done so in matches. I would suggest that there are fewer goals from headers now than at any time previously.
