Managed to be sent off, and claimed it's because of his accent or Scottishness....

It's comical.....

I'm sure us older ones will remember the disciplinary problems Dave Caldwell had.

I remember the headline on the back of the DT "Caldwell had to go". Pretty certain it was Randall that got rid, only for him to return 2/3 years later.

I remember Caldwell closing down a keeper at the Saltergate Cross Street end when this wasn't even a 50-50 ball. This was 100% the keeper's. Caldwell was yards short when the keeper had already collected the ball, but he continued his run and just blatantly kicked the keeper. Crazy - red card. Not a bad player but a nutter.

Dave Caldwell was always a red card about to happen. I only saw his second spell.

Gary Caldwell claims in that piece to be 'passionate'. That's the biggest lie of all.
These go to eleven.

Dave Caldwell - one of the most … ‘interesting’ players we’ve ever had. Funnily enough I can’t remember him that well, but my mate said he was a good player but a nutter. Can someone give me his dates as it might have been during one of my ‘down times’ with town. And did he ever play with Bob Newton as that would have been an interesting combination to say the least.

I think Caldwell came in to replace Bob Newton after he departed for Hartlepool at the end of the 84/5 season.

Speaking of headcases - anyone remember when Carl Airey played for us too?

Yes you’re right. I believe he did. Did he play with Ernie then or had the great man also left for the last time by then?

Remember in my early days of watching town 87/88 a home game v Grimsby, as the players warmed up I leaned over the Compton Street fence and asked Dave Caldwell to autograph my programme. As he was signing I asked him “so how many are you going to put in the back of the net today” he looked at me and grinned, then replied “what, goals or opposition players”

Absolute head case. Apparently he was known to frequent the Aquarius on a very regular basis.

I'm sure that was the Peterborough milk cup game - the DT headline was "Diego Caldwell"

He's 60 years old.

He scored fewer league goals than Pepple in longer the time.

It was indeed in a 2-1 win.
Also I think he actually posted on here for a very brief time around 10/12 years ago.
