The idea of an academy is a route to first team football at the relevant club or to make future professionals. (Not provide jobs for coaches or admin staff).
As Town are now established semi-pro / non league and look like staying for a while whilst Sheridan is in the big office the Academy is an expensive luxury.
Certainly not justifiable in the current predicament.
I think the central funding and category status lends itself to a bloated setup in terms of staff and in some cases, open to abuse.
Based on Moondog's figures that it is currently losing £150K per annum, without the funding that annual loss will be closer to £350K.
I am sympathetic to the issue and like most things the academy is certainly a victim of the bigger picture.
