VAR is ****

Different rules at different levels of the game (or at least the way the are implemented) but the results are still inconsistent and/or subjective.

For instance you don't play to the whistle ny longer, i.e offside because the decision could be overturned. If you play on at our level you'd most likely be booked.
Accentuate th Positive, eliminate the negative

Great corner routine and goal by Wolves last night then all the excitement sucked out of it as they spent 5mins fiddling around with a line on a computer screen trying to figure out if some blokes little toe was offside as he pulled the ball back to the goal scorer. Instead of celebrating and saying how a good a goal we seem to be sat whilst they look for a reason to change decisions.

It's ****** pathetic isn't it.

Should follow cricket and only review contentious decisions, where there is a big appeal from the opposition or the something. Reviewing ever goal is stupid

Why when Man United were in an attacking position and about to cross was the game stopped for offside by the referee's whistle? Maybe I miss understand but I thought the point was that the move was allowed to play out and then it could be looked at?

Yep...just sucking excitement out of the game for decisions that arent even borderline, they are even closer than that. It seems they've become so obsessed with getting everything correct that we are now checking everything and then making rule changes because of what VAR is highlighting such as handball decisions. American Football had similar issues when they first introduced it with games getting longer and longer than they already are so they changed to the process that teams had 3 challenges in each half and if they didnt get a challenge correct they lost a time out. As the time outs are important it makes teams and coaches think more about challenging decisions.

This said i've said all along that video replays and challenging of decisions only works in stop\start sports where the natural break in play allows for it to happen. Football doesnt have this so the review process becomes half bothered as to when you do it. Its fine if the ball goes out of play or a goal is scored then reviewed but if something happens but the game doesnt stop you have the issues like Westbars mentions about the offside decision where in theory they should have played it out then looked at it. It seems like we are just trialling VAR until they decide how they are going to use it which shouldnt be the case, at least not in things like top leagues or international tournaments.

Cricket has now pretty much got a system that works but it took years to get there with changes here and there about how it was used, implemented etc.

It's a little difficult to compare with replays in other sports as football is killing itself with its' own inconsistencies and contradictions.

Rugby has a dead-ball situation, where there's a small number of alternatives are available. The referee asks a specific question, e.g. is there any reason not to award a try / was there a forward pass in the build-up? The official is seeking clarification over something he may have missed from their position and view.

VAR was meant to be for "clear and obvious" decisions but they've already exceeded their remit. The muddied waters only mean frustration for players, coaches and supporters alike. But FIFA will no doubt claim once again that these talkung points are great for the game. I can also see a big call being blown in a vital game and the whole process coming under review.

Not sure about the PL imploding (hope it does) but I'd equate it to a 'black hole' tats sucks everying in until nothing else exists

Agree with everthing else though.

I watched Punjab United v Broadbridge Heath in the FA Cup streamed live on the BBC rather than Man City put 5 past a hapless West Ham. It really is a fine antidote to all the PL guff, try it out

I went to watch Worthing v Lewes in the Ryman Premier last Tuesday night, cracking game watch by over 1,200 with about 300 traveling Lewes fans created a great atmosphere. Stood behind the goal with a pint of local craft ale, can't beat it. Its the only Premier League I would pay my hard earned to watch!

Aguero and De Bruyne, the rest = no. Sane, Laporte, Mahrez and both Silvas are all laughable. He keeps Sane out the team for one.

That would be the centre back Laporte, right? Just shows how skewed his comparisons are.

The fact that the Sterling thread has reached 28 pages is a little desperate to be honest....

Silva isn’t retiring just leaving City he’s said. He’s from a little village called Arguineguín on Gran Canaria and it’s been rumoured he’ll sign for the professional club on the island, Las Palmas.

And Sterling keeping Sane’ out of the side and not the ACL...

Laporte, far more important to City overall than Sterling

Anyway it’s a PL thread not a RS one

The same ACL been keeping him behind Raheem since 2016?

Laporte is now more important because it's been pointed out he's a centre back and not a forward.

It's a PL thread not an RS one = I'm out if my depth.

You'll probably find walking easier if you take off the clown shoes.
