It's ****** pathetic isn't it.
Should follow cricket and only review contentious decisions, where there is a big appeal from the opposition or the something. Reviewing ever goal is stupid
Yep...just sucking excitement out of the game for decisions that arent even borderline, they are even closer than that. It seems they've become so obsessed with getting everything correct that we are now checking everything and then making rule changes because of what VAR is highlighting such as handball decisions. American Football had similar issues when they first introduced it with games getting longer and longer than they already are so they changed to the process that teams had 3 challenges in each half and if they didnt get a challenge correct they lost a time out. As the time outs are important it makes teams and coaches think more about challenging decisions.
This said i've said all along that video replays and challenging of decisions only works in stop\start sports where the natural break in play allows for it to happen. Football doesnt have this so the review process becomes half bothered as to when you do it. Its fine if the ball goes out of play or a goal is scored then reviewed but if something happens but the game doesnt stop you have the issues like Westbars mentions about the offside decision where in theory they should have played it out then looked at it. It seems like we are just trialling VAR until they decide how they are going to use it which shouldnt be the case, at least not in things like top leagues or international tournaments.
Cricket has now pretty much got a system that works but it took years to get there with changes here and there about how it was used, implemented etc.
