Cavandish Stamps maybe. Moved from Cavendish Street to Saltergate and diversified into models at the same time. But along time a go and before I decided that beer was a better investment than stamps

I remember it but can't for the life of me remember the name. There's a group on Facebook that'll probably know. I'll ask the question for you as I know you don't do that there social media malarkey.

Yes I'm sure it does, but I've managed to live 45 years without it so I'll be brave and chance a few more!
As for the engine drivers that doesn't sound familiar, It may have been called that at some point but doesn't ring any bells with me, beatties on the other hand sounds more like it.

Beatties was in Sheffield, I don't recall them ever having a branch in Town.
I don't remember the name Engine Drivers either but there were loads of different people on the group all came up with it so it must have been called that at some time.
There was also another model shop on the corner of Tapton Lane opposite the theatre. It's now a takeaway.

It was definately Engine Drivers around 79/80, got first Hornby train set and Scalextric from there ..in the days before all this internet buying in was a young boys dream to peruse that shop!

Remember it well, I used to love the place as a kid, my mum used to clean in the Gardners pub on a Sunday morning. I used to go sometimes, when I did I used to go around all the seating checking down the back finding the odd bit of small change. Then i'd look in the window of the model shop with envious eyes at all the amazing stuff on display.
Chesterfield back in the 70/80's had some amazing toy/model shops, even the market used to have a stall selling matchbox cars back in the day now it's just crap for that sort of thing, well it's actually none existent.
The way we now shop online has dictated the state of the highstreet, you cannot go into Town and buy a chart cd for example, I am so thankfull to be born in 1970 so I can appreciate how good Town used to be for toyshops etc I will also add the nightlife into that.
Town is a shadow of it's former glory, sadly i'd argue you can say that for a vast majority of small Towns like ours in this country. Rose tinted glasses maybe but life seemed so much simpler and better back then.

Tbe top end of Town used to be great, the County especially as me and my mates were friendly with the Landlord. Watching televised England matches etc, we even went in for Baywatch. The top end of Town just depresses me now, especially seeing the huge Co-op being closed.

I`ve slung a few ££ in that jukebox!!!!!!!

what was the name of the beer that mansfailed did, a hand pulled ale rather than the "bright" bitter - had a picture of a judge on the badge? Old Bailey? that wasn't a bad beer - only decent thing to have come out of Mansfailed.

A new hope.

Used to be pressed against the glass mesmerised by all the model trains running - my old man used to have to peel me off the window pane to get me to the game. At the time we lived in the Clifton Hotel and I used to practically drag my old man up Saltergate to get to the model shop before a game.

Yes you're right they did have a vain attempt at brewing a decentish ale but like all their other ales it was to sweet and poofish obviously they brewed for the locals. As regards the name, I've no idea maybe "Our man in Warwick" could help
