Of the model shop that used to be on saltergate? About opposite the county, sold scalextric cars etc.
I remember it but can't for the life of me remember the name. There's a group on Facebook that'll probably know. I'll ask the question for you as I know you don't do that there social media malarkey.

Yes I'm sure it does, but I've managed to live 45 years without it so I'll be brave and chance a few more!
As for the engine drivers that doesn't sound familiar, It may have been called that at some point but doesn't ring any bells with me, beatties on the other hand sounds more like it.

I don't remember the name Engine Drivers either but there were loads of different people on the group all came up with it so it must have been called that at some time.
There was also another model shop on the corner of Tapton Lane opposite the theatre. It's now a takeaway.

It was definately Engine Drivers around 79/80, got first Hornby train set and Scalextric from there ..in the days before all this internet buying in was a young boys dream to peruse that shop!

Chesterfield back in the 70/80's had some amazing toy/model shops, even the market used to have a stall selling matchbox cars back in the day now it's just crap for that sort of thing, well it's actually none existent.
The way we now shop online has dictated the state of the highstreet, you cannot go into Town and buy a chart cd for example, I am so thankfull to be born in 1970 so I can appreciate how good Town used to be for toyshops etc I will also add the nightlife into that.
Town is a shadow of it's former glory, sadly i'd argue you can say that for a vast majority of small Towns like ours in this country. Rose tinted glasses maybe but life seemed so much simpler and better back then.

Tbe top end of Town used to be great, the County especially as me and my mates were friendly with the Landlord. Watching televised England matches etc, we even went in for Baywatch. The top end of Town just depresses me now, especially seeing the huge Co-op being closed.

what was the name of the beer that mansfailed did, a hand pulled ale rather than the "bright" bitter - had a picture of a judge on the badge? Old Bailey? that wasn't a bad beer - only decent thing to have come out of Mansfailed.

Yes you're right they did have a vain attempt at brewing a decentish ale but like all their other ales it was to sweet and poofish obviously they brewed for the locals. As regards the name, I've no idea maybe "Our man in Warwick" could help
