Nope but they can stop working with the paper in terms of access to the manager/players on ongoing basis which for a paper that has cock all to report on anyway could be an issue.

Yes but it wouldn't look good when asked why by other media outlets

Where is the line drawn though as it sets a dangerous precedent if true. No reporting of a player drink driving? Sexual offences?

Those seeking to brush Turner and Sutcliffe's behaviour under the carpet can't prevent a journalist buying a ticket like everyone else and reporting games from that point of view.

Nor can they prevent a journalist extracting information from the official website, 'twitter', or other social media sources.

Infact I reckon the people of North Derbyshire would have more respect for a journalist reporting the Bingham story, reporting the Club's reaction, then reporting from a fan's point of view - including subsequent opinions from those surrounding him/her in the stand.

Then it comes down to the integrity of the newspaper. If they have integrity they stick to their principles and their right to publish what they believe to be true regardless of the consequences. The DT once did this and were banned from the press box at Saltergate for a time - but they did it. This was back in the days when it was a good local newspaper; a paper of record. There were times when stories would be printed even if they were to the detriment of advertisers, who threatened to pull out. Editorial independence. It's gone now. Shoestring staff, dull product.

There's a very good book called 'Flat Earth News' by Nick Davies that explains how most newspapers now work. In a nutshell, the majority of stories are just recycled press releases from public and private sector organisations trying to spin an angle. The old ways, and investigative reporting in particular is s dying art
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

I'm told my colleagues submitted a list of questions to the club last week and a response is expected by Tuesday.

You should look at the CHAD to see how they report on Mansfield and other local sport

John Lomas is one of my sports team colleagues. His work is exemplary. Although he too gets complaints from Stags fans

'RGS'.

Can you confirm or deny that journalists were warned not to touch the Bingham story under threat of bans?

You can call me Graham...

I haven't heard anything like that. My only info during my week off was that we had put a list of questions to the club and they are due to respond by Tuesday.

An honest and truthful answer can be given immediately without thought, surely over week to respond to concoct an answer just adds more doubt to the situation for everyone?
