I would like to know if there are any blood donors on the board, and I would like to know some of the reasons why people refuse to donate, because all would accept blood if they needed it

I don't give blood. The onlt reason been, is I can't stand needles - had a bad experience at the dentist when I was about 5. Other that my little phobia I would donate.

Wimp  So you wouldn't allow a needle in you if you needed a transfusion then?

I'm a little disappointed that so few deem it not worth an hour of thier time once every 3 months shame on you all :o

Yes, I do at least twice a year.

Listen guys when you need it you wouldn't want the doctor to say sorry we don't have any available you will have to leave this world.

I don't, but, i have been told they don't want my blood, half because of the amounts of (prescription) drugs i take to try and stop me keeling over and half because of the problem why i need the damn tablets in the first place (my liver produces more cholesterol than mcdonalds)!

To spireite, i has the same trouble as you with the denist, i finally got the courage to go recently, wish i had done ages ago, things have changed a lot since i last went, you don't feel a thing now.
And after b-monthly blood tests the last few years, i'm utterly unfazed by needles anymore. In fact the nurse is a good laugh at the doctors!

Much respect and thanks to the donors, including my dad who got one of the top donor honours a few years back (despite me not needing any of their effort just yet!).

Im not allowed to give blood, have a rare blood disorder beta phalasemia or something like that. Means they cant use it. Shame as i would give blood, and i believe i have the "rare" blood type aswell.

I don't think they would accept my blood now any way,but if your fit get donating, you may need it one day.

My dad went for 50th time the other day. You get a proper top certificate, a pin, and all sorts of other stuff to say you have reached the 50 mark.

Can't give blood. The Finnish authoroties don't accept the blood of anyone who's lived in britain between XX and XX (can't exactly remember the years but it's something like 88-03) due to the "mad-cow-disease".
This is my truth........ now tell me yours.

You mean Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and other human Spongiform Encephalopathies I presume.

Yes, I'm not familiar with the scientific term for the disease so I used what I though is the "common language" term for it. The term you used above however does ring a bell so, trusting you know which disease I'm on about, I think that's the right term ( I believe I've seen it abbreviated BSE). Anyway, quite why it's not allowed I'm not sure (they "defeated" the disaese in britain years ago), but that's the reason in my case.

Ok, maybe I'll just keep my trap shut in this subject from now on! I'm obviously way out of my depth in the discussion of correct medical terms.
