Off topic I know and it will probaly be deleted but here goes. Taped most of live 8 yesterday and watched it today and it was great to see the supposedly top bands of today humbled by the masters of yesterday, coldplay, muse , keane etc blown away by the likes of McCartney, The Who, Sting, U2 etc and not forgetting the masters of them all Pink Floyd who played together for the first time in 24 years and one days rehearsal, stunning performance. The rest of the bands bow to their supremecy and say thanks to the almighty for being allowed to walk on the same stage as the mighty Pink Floyd

Didnt realise it was a competition!!

I thought Coldplay, Keane, Snow Patrol and The Killers in particular were very good. Likewise, I thought U2, Floyd, Sting and The Who were also excellent.

How good did Roger Daltrey look and sound?????

no competition my opinion only which is there is nobody capable of taking the crowns of the masters of yesterday, but you made distinction yourself coldplayetc were very good but Floyd etc were excellent. you may have guessed not a lot of modern music pulls my strings and Floyd for me top of the pile, imo far too many come and go in a short space of time and seem to run out of ideas very quickly Oasis for example latest album 3rd rate imo. But Floyd, Who etc will fill the biggest venues when they go back on the road in the near future and Floyd still sell 1 million + ablums each year. Oh by the way marlons I am a Floyd fanatic

i know what youre saying but dont forget that in Pink Floyd you are talking about the cream... they are one of a small minority of top bands that have stood the test of time and could fill out large venues....

Bit harsh to compare to those other performers who by their own admission, can only aspire to be like them...

How may of the new acts will be around in 20/30 years? Hardly any at a guess, but that shouldnt detract from what they did yesterday..I think Keane are very good live, and I though the Killers did "All the Things Ive done" superbly...

I may be just another brick in the wall here but don't you think a lot depends of the era you grow up in? I've grown up in an era when techno music etc. is a big thing and I'll probably feel that future techno music will just try to emulate the current stuff and will all be a bit "samey" and it will feel like the all the ideas have baan used. Now when my dad was young you were eather a lttle bit country or a little bit rock& roll (he's born 1947) and he think everything modern is just boring and there rather few modern tunes that get him going. Where as my grandma only listens to Edith Piaf and thinks everything past that era is too noisy, fast and has no point. My point being that once you get old you get too cynical about new stuff and compare it maybe a little too eagerly to the "golden oldies". I didn't whatch any of the live8 performances but if I had i doubt it would've been Pink Floyd whos performance would've touched me most, they just don't mean anything to me as there not my era.

Fishini please don't have pity on the boy who dont crave for Pink Floyd... I'm still enjoying life& (what I rate as) good music

I'm sure deep down he won't be. His bark is worse than his bite (even though he has a cat as his profile, shouldn't it be a trout lol).
