It’s Will Grigg who actually stands offside as the free kick comes in isn’t it? Which begs a question.
It does seem to be a tactic. See the free kick at about 1:44. Will stands and stays in an offside position, and deliberately makes no attempt to play the ball as the kick comes in. Must be quite confusing for defenders.

Been happening for years now that attackers stand offside while the defenders are quite high but the defenders then drop back in as the ball comes in so half a chance the attacker will be onside at that point or if not they generally dont play the first ball and then look to pick up the pieces etc if it happens by which point they are offside.

I would have said in the vast majority of instances the forward ensures he’s onside as the kick is taken; the attacking player usually drifts back towards the defenders. . The difference here is that Will deliberately stays offside. Strangely, re picking up the pieces, if you look at the offside examples on the IFAB website, if the free kick hits the woodwork or the keeper parries and it comes back to the offside player- it’s still offside. “It’s an offside offence as the forward is considered to have gained an advantage from being in an offside position, and therefore is penalised for playing the ball”

Can imagine that happening at this level and the assistant having a brain meltdown trying to figure out what happened and what to give!! As you say the majority of time because the defenders are dropping back in the attacker is normally onside.

Beach let in another stinker for Gateshead against Dorking, and another scare with the ball at his feet outside the area as well. I worry for them with the lad in goal unfortunately.

Not that I care one way or another, but why wouldn't they bring in a senior keeper?
Beech will improve through the years but to drop an inexperienced kid straight into the first team
And before jumping in with the Tyrer is only 21, our Harry has had a load more games than Eddie Beech

They needed a keeper at short notice after the previous loan keeper was recalled, i suspect it was a bit of who was available straight away to bring in for the game against us as much as everything else.

With regards to gateshead keeper situation archie mair was on loan to the club all season but got recalled and loaned out to morecambe at very short notice. Beech has been poor so far and i feel the keeper on the bench, who has played in 2 trophy games is better. Cant go on sticking with beech if he continues with poor form, use the other goalie who has at least tasted senior football. Except i cant imagine his parent club will be happy if he is relegated to the bench

I don't like pulling goalkeepers to bits, personally, but this lad must have played against strikers sporting Zimmer frames. Teams are going to target his meanderings with the ball at his feet, and Gateshead will lose points because of it. I just hope he gets through this, and it doesn't affect his career.

Yeah I also feel bad for him. Not my intention to have a pop at him. I'm a goalkeeper myself, my post was more in sympathy and observation rather than having a go. I agree with others it's a tough situation to be thrown into, and for them as a whole they've played good football and done really well so it would be a shame for things to fall apart for them.
