At least two of us have emailed David Conn of the same newspaper hoping to tweak his interest in the misdeeds happening at our football club.
It would be nice if he shows an interest in getting in on the ground floor of a developing story rather than reporting on the broken pieces.
Sadly this ground floor to outsiders has been two or three years in the making

It wouldn't be the first time. He might even have been a CFSS founder member.

He did a major piece on Darren Brown, so I'd imagine he'd be keen to keep his eye on Chesterfields progress after those sordid events.

I understand certain national newspapers have already been in touch with our press officer trying to get a 'scoop' on both our current plight and the latest on the car crash over the road.

He did many major pieces on us from the post Darren Brown era right up to our move from Saltergate.
He worked for the Independent back in those days, so he clearly has integrity.
He obviously knows Tooley very well so that could be a help. He was our only friend in the media back then, perhaps he could be again.

I'm sure there are others, more detailed and nearer year zero (2001)

He tends to leave the running of the club to his friends, and there lies the problem.

One Hearn quote stands out
“The football business is morally and economically defunct and fundamentally flawed. I couldn’t wait to leave.”
Reading through that article makes you realise our club had probably stumbled on Hearn's maxim of signing young, hungry players on not too much, yet went the gung ho route of signing more expensive and older players (under Saunders) who had no appetite or enthusiasm for a League One scrap.
And yet Hearn himself admits losing millions from his investment in Orient.
What it all does show, is that it is easy enough to lose money in football, without adding lax controls, dodgy associations with development schools and poor player investment.

Hearn may have lost millions but our problem is our owner wants all his money back and then some.

Blimey - to paraphrase an old Neil Diamond lyric: 'Well except for the names and a few other changes, if you talk about us, the story's the same one'!

Barry Hearn certainly seemed to have a much better handle on what he was originally trying to do, compared to our incumbents.. There again he is a Chartered Accountant.
Mind, he couldn't control the path his successor took, even though Hearn saw him as far more wealthy than himself.

Conn was a good ally to my club (Pompey) in reporting some of the very grubby stuff around our problems but I'm sure he would acknowledge that much of what he reported was linked to intelligence from a small group of supporters around the murky dealings of some of our owners and their associates.
I've probably said this before on a previous visit, but I wish you only the best in sorting your situation out.
