What's people views on private number plates?

Contemplating buying one that has both my Surname (in full with 11 as LL) and CFC on it.

Anyone got one and regret it?

A GP who I used to work with , who ironically had personalised plates of his own , used to always mentally replace the plate with wan*er

Something i've never been fussed with really. Brother in law has one with his initals before the two numbers then first three letters of his surname.....just makes his car look a bit older as the private one is an 11 plate number and the car is slightly newer than that! You only get the initials\surname bit if you know him!

I quite like the 'so bad that they're almost good' ones. Names that can just about be made out despite the limitations of the plate. Something along the lines of DA44 3NN masquerading as Darren. Or those where the names can only be worked out due to the use of large black screwheads etc.

On a related issue I was once in a petrol station filling up. Fella drove up in a newish mini. He stopped quickly. His front plate fell off. He got out, walked round and reattached it using the velcro that had been holding it on. Not in any way suspicious.

Like everything in life, very much a personal thing. My wife had one, present from the kids for her 30th birthday, made her happy. Been on retention since she died and cant quite bring myself to get rid even though I'll never use it...

Daughter then had one when she started driving - which she still has. Which meant the son had to have one to be fair but he has never had a car so its on my car. Handy that we share a surname then and that is what it spells.

Pretty close to w****r to be fair...

The best ever was Phil Tromans who was an Obstetrician / Gynaecologist at Scarsdale , his full name was Philip Michael Tromans hence his plate - PMT1 , can't better that

I've got a CFC one and have no regrets. You do however have to be slightly choosy about which away games you drive too and where you park though!

Oh and you will have to suffer idiots who know perfectly well that you are a Spireite repeatedly saying aaahhh you support Chelsea then...

I have one my birthday and my initials. If I have any advice it is buy it directly from the DVLA. I spotted mine through a third party but it was too expensive but found it on the the DVLA site £800 cheaper. Apparently they buy the numbers from the DVLA and then mark them up massively

Yeah, already been in touch with them as the one I wanted wasn’t advertised nor was it already in existence. They’ve said if I say yes they’ll list it for the price they’ve quoted me and tell me the day/time it goes live on the website but it’s a first come first served basis so can’t guarantee someone won’t pip me to it.

I did think that being CFC it would retain decent value as it may appeal to Chelsea or Celtic fans should I decide to sell it in the future.
