Southgate has taken a bunch of above average international players and removed all the excitement, whilst still managing to produce reasonable results,so the end might be said to justify the means, but Lord, it's boring. He's had the opportunity in the last couple of games to go for some entertaining football that might just have been transferred to our performance in more important games. He didn't. He got them playing the only way he knows - slow it down, stifle, keep possession and above all, run no risks, even when there are no risks to run.
If that's what it takes, you're welcome, but I'm one of several on here who can't be bothered to watch the international side play any more, and certainly not against tenth rate opposition. I never thought I'd ever be made to feel like that, but Southgate has managed it.
Nah football is about results.
If you want entertainment get Amazon Prime or Netflix

Perhaps those who paid Wembley prices to watch a reasonable performance, but didn't get it.

We have some fantastic players and a great squad, I find it a bit exciting that we may well win something in the very near future.
You aren’t the only one. I’ve got got back from 3 days in Skopje, lovely little city, very cheap and a friendly set of locals

You agree that Southgate doesn't provide entertainment then? I'm surprised that, as a coach (allegedly), you don't value good football very highly, but I suppose it's easier to coach negativity than skill.

I'm not convinced by that.
Imo, you have to have a large amount of, let's say, natural skill to start with - something you are born with. Something 'athletic' in the genes. No matter the sport. Then you hone those skillsin your chosen sport.
If you gave me (athletic-ish now in my later years) and my wife (not athletic) a football each and told to practice keepie upies for two weeks, I don't really need to tell you what the results would be.

Comparative to about 6 other nations so to make a final and semi is excellent.
GS is a spectacularly good manager.
If he leaves the England job after this next tournament what sort of club would be offering him a job?
It won’t be Man City liverpool spurs Aston Villa Man Utd Chelsea Brighton Newcastle Brighton
It would be West Ham at best, Crystal Palace Fulham notts forest and that level of club.
He’s not a spectacularly good manager. He lacks the ability to change games or counter opposition changes. That’s why he’s so cautious in his approach to games.

If we win the next tournament he probably won’t be looking for a job as a club manager, he will more than likely be employed by the FA.
It’s strange how many involved in football, managers and players etc speak very highly of him don’t you think?

I’d want him to be cautious whilst ever qualification and or progress in the competition is on course. You only have to throw caution to the wind ( or play attacking football) if you are looking to lose or going home.
I’ve not seen any better alternative offered who will actually take the job.

Has he squandered a wealth of talent even beyond the supposed 'golden generation' available to SGE?
Dunno.
But it could also be argued he created an environment where players actually enjoy wearing the Three Lions as opposed to being inhibited by them.
Bearing in mind a number of converted penno's - including Kane's v France - might've left this entire conversation moot, too.
He is conservative. He is stubborn in terms of Maguire and Henderson. He does oversee sterile performances such as the recent two.
However they can be balanced against the goal fests of previous qualifiers and blowing away the multiple trophy winning Italians.
Let's judge him after he leaves for some post Germany position with the FA...
