A Town version of Shearer?

The name of Ernie Moss sprang instantly to mind, closely followed by that of Danny Wilson.
Then, perhaps to a lesser extent, there's the likes of Steve Baines, Dave Waller or Steve Norris.
But other than them?
Do we have anyone that's a genuinely iconic figurehead capable of rallying disillusioned Townsfolk?

The only one i think would be welcomed at the mo would be Wilson because of his stature at this club and at what level he has managed at in the past.

If Richardson was to leave I'd hope we advertise the position and appoint the best candidate. Consistent winning football and affordable match day tickets are the only things that will get stayaways back on a regular basis

What about Kevin Davies if he does a Shearer and returns to his rootes?
There is a similarity in terms of the fact that neither have "managed" yet.
Ernie Moss has only managed at lower league level and its to late now for him.
Danny boy as both succeeded and failed with various clubs but seems to require a high budget level (cue the new owners).
Baines, Waller & Norris are now non-runners so the only other two I could imagine raising the interest are Blathers & Reeves.

Having seen some other replies and thought for a minute myself, I'd say "No." Blathers might come close but like other recent posters I don't completely get the Reevsie thing, on his Town playing record alone. His rapport is a different matter, but given that he seemed to get the hump on and take his ball home a couple of times, I think he's a bit lucky to still have a rapport - the likes of Taffy Ebdon, say, wouldn't have survived criticising the club when he wasn't sold to Stoke in 1999-00.
Bob Newton is the nearest to having an obvious and genuine rapport with us, in my time, but he's from a different age. Danny Wilson is lowering his stock at Swindon. Ernie: legend, and let's keep it that way. Who wants to join in a chorus of "Moss out!" when we're bottom of the league?
Before looking for our own Shearer, though, let's wait and see if he's actually any good. He's waited until his club are in such a bad way that he's in a no-lose situation, and any possible saviour who did that to us wouldn't deserve legend status in my book.

Did a decent job at Barnsley in getting them in the Premiership and making them competative on probably the lowest player budget of all the clubs in the PL and I wouldn't say his time at Hartlepool was a failure.
I do think he'd do a decent job for us but I wouldn't get rid of the current management team at the moment.

Strictly speaking, is he not from Sheffield and a Sheffield United supporter?

Fortunatly, we don`t have many disillusioned townfolk these days but when the day comes when we need an iconic figurehead my vote goes to Bob Wilson.

Often get confused about David Reeves, remember standing on the kop during his final season with us and remembered the abuse he was getting when he was warming up as sub when he was coming to the end of his career, got treated like Bunkum by a large number of supporters on the kop on numerous occasions, last time i spoke to him was last year and if he`s not changed his mind he`s not gonna come back here as manager or coaching staff and its highly unlikely he`s gonna be offered it anyway so not much point mentioning him again.

Ernie is delivering new cars around the county now, for Kennings or somebody.
Daft as it sounds, I think Jack has great potential for it. Decisive, clear minded, opinionated. low tolerance of failure.
