This is a worthless exercise because it doesn’t reflect the size of the urban areas in which the clubs are located. By explanation, in our case it won’t include supporters, of whom there are many from, for example, Holymoorside, Wingerworth, Tupton, Grassmoor, parts of Hasland, Calow and more, all of which lie outside the Borough in North East Derbyshire District. If this research is to be taken seriously, it needs a lot more work on the basis for the comparisons. On the other hand, as we know, these people never let the truth influence the headlines.

For Grimsby the population of Cleethorpes is used while Barnet's is used when they play outside their borough.

The population figures for us and Mansfield may be comparable. We are better supported despite having our worst and best seasons respectively for probably 20 years.

It would be closer with our actual attendance figures. Mansfield at least report in true figures rather than our massaged ones.

We count those who don't attend with a ticket (season ticket holders on holiday etc) - are you sure Mansfield don't do the same?
I'd have thought they would do for simplicity and I can see why CFC do maybe its to do with accounts/tax although I don't know to be sure

Including no shows is not messaging figures as those seats have been sold and revenue obtained.
It could be argued that reporting freebies is misleading as no revenue has been obtained

Tickets sold (i.e. Money collected) is surely more important than how many actually go into stadium anyway?
The actual number fluctuates massively on the day anyway (late walk ups/early leavers etc)

I suspect they days of fiddling gate receipts by not counting attendees has long gone. In fact if they didn't include seats that were sold but unoccupied some on here would accuse the club fiddling

Mansfield's attendances are actual attendees.

It's massaging them for me as it's misleading when compared with the vast majority of clubs in our division.
Few others, if any, do as we do.

In terms of revenue absolutely.

Perhaps every club with computerised ticketing systems should do it.
Few others, if any, do as we do.
Are you sure, looking at a Mansfield game recently it was very hard to believe when compared to our game there. Doncaster's reported attendances are sometimes laughable
In terms of revenue absolutely.
The bottom line
I know you were only illustrating a point but why do some people get so bothered about it - it's like taking a twig to beat the clubs management of the head with when there is a cudgel available.

How do you know we are alone in reporting like this? I'd not be surprised if we wasn't alone having been to Doncaster Rovers a few years ago it was clear they must be doing the same to a much higher degree of exaggeration than we had

We aren't alone. It's common in the Premier League and less so the further you drop.
I went to the Emirates the other week. Clearly at least 15k empty seats but 58k official attendance.
