Well the "yes" vote appears to be gathering momentum as the vote approaches. There's now a very real chance that the Jocks will vote, albeit narrowly, to go it alone. Now although I've no real thoughts either way, but sneakily I'd like them to go and see how they fare, what's the chance of them voting for independence but still being bankrolled from Westminster..?

None.
Still think they'll vote no (narrowly) but if the vote yes after the seperate on period when the kitty & debt get divide up they'll be on their own.
If this happens god help them as Alex salmond is a dreamer/charlatan of the highest order.

I can see it being the sort of vote where people will say 'yes' now but will have second thoughts when they get there.

It'll be a 'no'.

This is my view -

Salmond wants to go down in history as the man who gave Scotland its independence. No other reason. and he will get it.

They will go it alone, and, for the first few years they will be ok. They will borrow from the EU and the IMF and things will be ok for a decade or so.

However, once the economic realities start to bite - things like funding the their share of the national debts, high unemployment, the NHS, Postal services, Public transport, Emergency services in the remote rural sparsely populated areas of Scotland, and then having to fund higher education start to bite, and the loss of jobs and revenues from the Air bases, Submarine bases, Scottish regiments etc then they will struggle.

yes they will have VAT revenues from the north sea, but what else is there? a small tourist trade and a small whiskey export trade?

If they want to go it alone, then fine, go it alone, but you get no money at all from Westminster. Not a penny. Take your share of the debt and have fun.

In 50 yrs time they will be broke and England will, once again, have to bail them out financially in return for political union. But that wont matter to Salmond, he will be long dead and into the history books.

Exactly as happened last time.

A new hope.

If they do vote yes, we should send all the jocks living in this country back over the border (especially all the drunken tramps & MPs!!!) and rebuild Hadrian's Wall (but this time a bit taller and with motion sensitive weaponry sited on the top) that'll learn 'em! :ninja:

they will do what many tens of thousands of other Europeans have done.

Come to England, do a few days graft through an agency, then finish there and "look" for work while being on the social.

As with other parts of Europe, we will be subsidising their levels of unemployment.

As they will not be part of the EU they are not entitled to any benefits at all. Will there be a need for passports to cross the border? If yes who will be responsible for patrolling the borders? Will all the dress wearers living here become illegal immigrants? Will we be able to call ourselves English then?

If they want independence they should get it and everything that goes with it. We shouldn't bank roll them at all. We might all be better off

Yes I got that.

I've always considered myself english rather than british however.

I just didn't understand why fish would feel any different.

I have always thought of myself as English. Why wouldn't I? I always seem to have been shot down on here though. Pity some think its wrong to be called English. Why should they?

Spot on. Let's see how proud of independence the Scots are when they suddenly have to find the money to fund stuff such as their own nhs and university. They can harp on about north sea oil revenue all they want but it won't fund a country, and it won't last forever.

If we so much as continue to contribute a penny to a country that only want the benefits from us without been in the union I'd be fuming.

Just a thought, if they vote Yes do we become the Disunited Kingdom? Maybe when the Smoked Salmond starts dishing out all the extra wealth it will solve our immigration problem, they will all want to head to the Salmondland Republic.. It's an ill wind as they say. Still there will always be an England!

Are they not going to apply to be a member of the EU?

I thought I'd read that was the plan, so their 'independence' will be nothing of the sort.

I'm sure the EU will want Scotland - if they're keen on places like Turkey or Ukraine, they must surely want Scotland as a member
