I have always gone to the Coopers then into town to a Wetherspoons type pub for lunch. Every time (admittedly on a Saturday) an hour before ko the police turn up and park a double decker bus outside and try and persuade fans to leave the pub and board the bus (a bit early for my liking) but it's free and the same bus waits at the ground and drops you off at the railway station after the match.

Sounds like a plan. Does this bus (assuming it's there on a Sunday) pick up from town or coopers?

I recall seeing buses before but didn't know what they were laid on for. Last time I ordered a big taxi from the Burton Bridge Inn & it wasn't even a pound a man.

Now you've thrown somewhere else into the mix! Where's the Burton Bridge Inn? Anywhere near Coopers?

Best bet is to have a walk around. Right out the station and you'll pass various pubs, some good some bad. Short walk into the town centre - the Burton Bridge Inn is the opposite side of the town to the station.

Thanks Westbars.

You know of anywhere to steer clear of?
Assume there'll be a few of us in the pubs around the station. 🍻👍🎶

Mansfield!! :sunglasses

If you turn right out of the station, the first pub you come to is nothing special, but the next pub (Devonshire Arms) serves an excellent pint of draft Bass.

Burton Bridge is in an area of town know as Bargates (on Horninglow St) and is a shorter walk to the ground than from The Coopers (but only if you know the way!!).
Growing old is unavoidable, growing up is optional

Haha. Hopefully we'll be able to steer clear of Mansfailed for a very long time!! (Maybe cup aside)

Might start in Coopers and see where we end up from there!!
Thanks 😃🍻

Dont know if they saw me coming but the door was locked when we got there. It looked closed but the Albert was a very good alternative with nice Burton Bridge beer and cracking cobs

Blame Rotherham fans for the partial lock-down in East Staffordshire. The police told us not to bother trying the Burton Bridge Inn but thankfully the landlord had a pair of his own.

We looked at a few around the centre and all seemed to be closed, Dame Westbars, but the Albert was a real find. The Beech was poor though.

The beer in the Beech was dreadful. Atmosphere was pretty good though.

Literally every single pub was closed on the route I'd planned. Lord Burton (weatherspoons), Coopers Tavern and Roebuck. All fantastic real ale pubs

Sure it'll be a policing measure more than the pubs wanting to shut...Missed out on a lot of potential revenue. Especially from me...If someone locked me in the Coopers Tavern for the day I'd be happy

The police didn't know until today that the pubs were closed. Due to problems when Rotherham came, the police were unable to go to every pub and stop them from being smashed up, so with the police unable to guarantee a presence in each pub, the landlords decided to stay shut.

The police weren't expecting the Coopers to be shut as they were there waiting with us at 12. I like that pub but they can whistle next time I'm in Burton.

The cobs in here were awesome and the staff were fantastic. Highly amused by some chavvy Town idiot moaning about his Carling to the barmaid only to be told "Well, the guys who brew it over the road come in here and say it's one of the best places to drink it - so maybe it's your local thats at fault?"
