Another good day. Glad to see Tom Poynton get some runs. He's a long way to go to become the batsman you need as wicket keeper but it's a start.

In a way he's better than Borrington in that he hasn't got out to me!!

Joking aside he is a quality keeper to the point of being worth a wicket so if his batting can get up to standard as well he'll be more than useful!!

2 wickets in the first hour for Derbyshire is a good start. Essex 4 down and still trail by 63.

Great 10 wicket win for Derbyshire chasing 94 to win.

110 points and sit proud at top of table. Onwards and upwards!

Yep....one thing bowling sides out cheaply when its been like it has been but to do it yesterday was a massive effort. Good start to a few cricketing days for me....looks like being red hot for playing on Saturday at Tutbury, no 10/11 over spells this weekend, then off to Trent Bridge on Sunday.

Hoping for no repeat of the last time we went there which wasnt a bowlers day....they got 370 and we very nearly knocked them off!!

you're ok bud, I'm back bowling after a successful trundle on Sunday for Spital!

probably won't need you to bowl later

On a serious point, great win for Derbyshire, beating the media darlings at Essex, wonder when the press will take our team seriously, certainly looking good so far and I'm very much looking forward to a few days down Queens Park watching them this season

To be fair, we haven't been taken seriously since the early 90's when Adams, Krikks, Barnett, and Morris were in their heyday. Add in Azharrudin and you get a bit misty eyed at the side we had back then.

Hopefully we'll have something to celebrate this year. Its been far too long.

Oh god...they might break 400 today then!!

As for Derbyshire I'd rather they kept writing us off...would make any success all the sweeter!! Listened to some commentary from Chelmsford via the net and their commentators were very impressed with the side. The big moment is going to be whether khawaja can be as influential as guptill.

1996. Dean Jones' side. Finished second to Leicestershire. Probably the summer I saw more cricket than ever - finished my GSCEs and it was a warm summer, the Euros and all that. Side of Barnett, Rollins, Adams, Jones, DeFreitas, Cork, Krikken, Harris, Malcolm. Tremendous side.

Definitely Tim. Strong at the top and the bottom. Full of internationals, and a brilliant side. The way it broke up left a sour taste really, as money in the game began to talk.

Didn't DeFreitas end up at Leicestershire not long after??

Finished 2nd when still only one division. Jones was a hard taskmaster and rumour had it some of the players did not fancy the hard work he demanded.

I think he left the following season after Hampshire easily chased down a declared 350 total in the Queens Park.

The side this season seem to be all playing for the same cause.

Got some high praise from the Essex coach and skipper. We've been fortunate with injuries (better conditioned?) and every man has a role that fits into the team plan. I just hope we don't lose momentum over the T20s though we ought to do well in that. Hughes for Borrington and it's not far off a good side in that.

Hughes doesn't seem to have had the same impact this time round. Is he injured or something? Overall, it's been an absolutely brilliant start to the season for the team though. That Essex result was phenomenal.

Good day for England and Strauss in particular. Job only half done though...we'll need at least 500 if we're going to put them under enough pressure.

Hughes is fit and has been playing the 1 day games but Borrington has been playing the championship games. Hughes is also playing for sandiacre in the Derbyshire prem.

Off to the test match today...going to be warm one!!

I know quite a few people going to the test today. If it goes to the fifth day I could probably take a day off to go but realistically I expect England to get a huge score today and have them back in after tea. Hughes is a strange one, didn't even get a bat yesterday in the Prem game and his record is very poor against amateurs but he's got something.
