Agree there were a few crowds of 16000 but never 19000. The biggest crowd of living memory was that 17000 against Barnsley. There were only a handful of crowds of 16000 but plenty of 14/15000. I also vaguely remember the days before true segregation walking past I think Notts Co fans as we swapped ends st half time. Remember being shocked when the fence went up on Compton Street. Oh for the days when people could be trusted to behave like decent human beings and segregation was unnecessary. But then there's little hope for decency these days even on internet forums.

I don’t think there was much trust when we played Villa or Barnsley

How many Rangers fans came ? There’s your barometer.

The Scotsman said 3000, ITV reckoned 5000.

What was the crowd when we played the game against Sheffield Wednesday, to celebrate the installation of the floodlights, anyone remember? Seemed to be pretty big to me from memory.

I was at the Barnsley game. I had friends who were Barnsley fans and apparently the away end shut its gates before all of them could get in. My friends stood in the home end down the side along with a load of others. So still unclear how many home fans were there that day.

Many more unaccounted for as Wednesday fans forced the exit gates open about 15 mins before kick off.

They didn't shift anyone off the kop Dave.
They just got into the ground as soon as the turnstiles were opened.
Town fans were still in the pubs until time was called at 3.00pm.

It always followed a similar pattern in them days, Nige.

The other mob would turn up before three when ours' were still in the boozer. Bearing in mind kick off was invariably three fifteen back then. But as our lads arrived the 'visitors' would congregate in the Compton corner, sing a couple of times, get charged, then clamber desperately onto the pitch before strutting down the touchline as if they'd got some sorta result.

Even the Plod rolled their eyes at the predictability of it all...

Thanks - the 7-1 away defeat is correct - just checked on a Derby County history site 22April 1957. Surprising what you can remember from when you were 15, but can spend half the day wondering where I left stuff now.

That is weird. I did the reverse. Queues were that long Saltergate end that I went in the Cross Street then down Compton and climbed over by the fence into our side.

Why check on a Derby site when we have the most comprehensive statistical site in football. Every result, every attendance, and every team line-up including most opponents' teams?

100% definitely it happened at the opening of the floodlights game in 1967.
I was there and saw them pouring in through the open gates.

Hopefully should be 10,000 home fans for the last match of the season. We should have learnt from the BW game. There were 82 of them (more like 50) in a block that probably holds a few hundred.
We could have shifted them all down to the front rows and segregated across the middle of the block. Or even integrated them in with the home fans. Im sure we could do this with Maidenhead or something along those ideas. Either way lets have a 10,000 crowd.

I didn’t go to that game so I can’t comment on that. However it definitely happened in that evening game in 75, which was the first time we had played Wednesday in a league game in my time. We played then for five years running and there was trouble each time, but after that first horrendous game it diminished each time.
I also recall the Villa games. Was it one or two in the league and definitely one in the league cup. Again lots of trouble. From what I remember for at least one of the games they ended up sharing the Kop.

They were on the kop for all three games.
The night game in the league cup wasn't a great experience for them both in the ground and on the way back to the railway station.
