Don't think I have been to such a place with such fantastic buildings( never appreciate that kinda thing when your younger),worthy of places like Monte Carlo.
But the problem is for all the fantastic work by hundreds of highly skilled workers to make the place into a stunning spa town its now a product of broken Britain full of low life's,smack heads and chavs,it's a place this country should be proud of but it's descending into a light of yesteryear...if ever a town needed major investment and a clear out.

My Wife has family connections to Scarborough so we go loads and as you say its a fantastic place with some glorious buildings but like a lot of places its suffered through a lack of funding and investment. It relies massively on tourism so outside the main months its a struggle for a lot of people. We tend to go more out of season when its quieter and there are numerous things just shut as no point opening outside the main busy times. It really lacks stuff to do when the weather is a bit iffy which tends to be quite often on that coast and whilst there has been talk of building some new facilities like a cinema on the site of the old outdoor waterpark in North Bay it just keeps failing to materialise much like many great plans around chesterfield. Buildings like the big Grand Hotel have been gradually left to run in a poor state and now at a point where the cost to sort it is massive so just wont happen and they have to take what they can to stay open and cant compete with the other bigger hotels close by. For what its worth its probably no different to a lot of places these days with folk struggling and succumbing to things. To be honest walking round Chesterfield town centre on a midweek lunch hour can not be a pleasant experience at times...walked up the other day as some lad had collapsed outside the old Zanzibar nightclub after taking something and had a few round him whilst they waited for an ambulance.

All this said we love it there. Folk we visit have a glorious house just off the front in the area known as Paradise, they have a balcony overlooking the front and sea views from all the windows on one side of the house. I could happily live there and spend days walking the dog on the beach etc.

It’s a wonderful part of the country along with Filey and Whitby, I like to see those places every summer.

Not really been to Filey much but done Scarborough and robin hoods bay loads. Occasionally nip to whitby but not a fan of it, gets far too busy too easily as it’s all narrow streets etc. prefer the beaches at Scarborough and robin hoods bay as well.

Fileys a god send if you’re staying at the Reighton Sands Haven caravan park a couple of miles away and want to escape relatives, get something decent to eat and and drink and find some action.

Last time I went to Scarborough, I parked up, stepped out of the car into a pile of puke. At the same time I heard a woman shout across the road to her mate “Did you f**k that bloke last night followed by a loud cackle.

Never felt the urge to go back.

We stay on The Bay when we go. A short walk down to one of the best beaches in this country.

Open Air Theatre is a cracking venue and fair few pubs to stop in if you fancy as you walk down there from the town centre. Seen Biffy Clyro and Courteeners there in recent years. Both times the weather played ball and it was a nice evening which probably helped the experience.

Got to be miles behind the beaches in Devon and Cornwall?

Cornwalls a pig of a drive and they get their fair share of riff raff these days, locals always complaining about drunken tourists, and there’s plenty of sick and litter on their streets and it’s not posh puke either. I’ve never been to the seaside at Devon so can’t comment about it there but I’d rather go to North Yorkshire or Lincolnshire rather than Cornwall which like Scarborough used to be nicer.
