I know Radio Derby have virtually no interest in covering our matches but I think their presenter Colin Gibson needs a geography lesson

Towards the end of the Derby v Crewe replay he came out with the statement it looks as both Derby and Burton will lose their replays tonight so Alfreton Town will be the only representative from Derbyshire and East Staffordshire left in the 2nd round of the FA Cup

Also the crowd at the Derby v Crewe match was just over 6,000 with over 800 from Crewe so the magic of the FA Cup looked to be in full force their tonight lol

Reminded me when the BBC (fairly recently) referred to Port Vale v Crewe being a Staffs derby.

Yes, some do really need to go back to school.

Didn’t Des Lynam once refer to Chesterfield v Chester as a derby?

He did.

It gets better though, I once worked with a Man U fan who asked me if Colchester v Chesterfield was a local derby.

Not to do with football, but I used to work in a business which used regions and a woman once asked where’s Sunderland? Is it South West region? I could understand if it was a small place but having no idea where a big city like Sunderland is is bizarre. Can’t understand people who have no idea about the geography of their own country.

A family member as we set off to drive to Edinburgh once asked if it was south or north on the motorway!

My sister was going for a job interview in Huddersfield, got to the top of the M1 at Leeds, turned right instead of left, then rang my dad with the classic line 'Dad, where am I?' to which his response was 'How the hell should I know?' on her way to Hull instead!

My Mrs is utterly useless at geography and admittedly will hold her hand up. We have recently booked to go to Barcelona for the new year. She’s sorted the hotel and wanted to show me the location, loaded google maps which was pin pointed on our house to start. She proceeded to swipe on the map for a while… all the way East. I let her carry on until she finished zooming in on Izmir in Turkey, shocked we hadn’t come across Barcelona yet.

A good few years ago my wife was working with an 18 year old girl who had recently passed her driving test and bought her first car. She thought it a good idea to finance maintaining the car to take a second job a few evenings a week going to peoples homes and doing an Ann Summers type party thing selling stuff. After doing a couple locally around town one of her customers asked if she would consider travelling to Barnsley to do one for a friend of hers. She agreed and not having a clue where Barnsley was she asked her Dad. As they lived in Brimington he told her to drive up to junction 30 of the M1 at Barlborough and head north until she saw signs for the Barnsley turn off.

She set off and a good 2 hours or so later her dad got a call from her.... " Dad, I've been driving over 2 hours and I still haven't seen a sign for Barnsley. "
Her dad asked where she was and she replied " Well I've pulled off the motorway to call you and I'm at some services called Roadchef. "
" Ok but where abouts are you ? " he asked. " Just a sec while I ask someone " she answered .......

"I've just asked a bloke and he says I'm at Watford Gap Northamptonshire " came the reply.

She had headed southbound from Barlborough instead of Northbound and just kept driving until something in her head had said to her this seems a flippin long way!
She didn't use the word flippin when she told us about it though lol.

Pre Satnav my wife was navigating to a shop she wanted to visit in Greater Manchester. She explained that I needed to take the Wiggley line that looks like a black caterpillar on the left. After the railway crossing, I stopped and explained what the wiggley caterpillar was, and that you don't turn onto them unless you want to be hit by a 300T beast. She's better than me at driving though 😂.

When I worked for a printers in London many moons ago, I sent our delivery driver to pick up some stuff from a place in ilford (Essex). After a couple of hours he phoned me and said he couldn't find the place, he was in Guildford (Surrey)!

My brother once stopped off in Middleton Stoney, Oxfordshire, asking for directions to Chesterfield as he had heard of Stoney Middleton and thought he must nearly be home. Around that time I was living in Scotland and he asked me if he needed his passport to drive up there.
These go to eleven.

My sister some time ago was coming home from far off Doncaster and as she came off the M18, faced with M1 North or M1 South, took M1 North (Chesterfield’s in the North isn’t it?) Got to Leeds before she thought she may have taken a wrong turn.

Ha ha it's funny that cos we have friends in Scunthorpe (well the wife has lol) and we must have visited them hundreds of times over many years and it's guaranteed every time when returning home and we get close to that junction she will say " you need to get over to the left lane. You're too far to the right. You're in the South lane for Nottingham and London. You need to go left cos thats North for Sheffield and Leeds. "
I've long since stopped answering her when she says it and I just shake my head at her now. I just hope she never drives over alone to visit them when I'm dead and gone. She just can't figure it out and never remembers.

Once got asked by a young girl at work if Liverpool was near London.
When I asked why, the response was "because they both begin with "L"

I did that once coming back from Scarborough. I'm sure you have to get in the left hand lane to go north and it confused me.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on
