Who got the assists in the Eastleigh game? Highlights unhelpfully are not up yet as far as I can see anyway.

Grigg for Berry, Banks for Grigg, not sure about Mandy’s.

Assists were Grigg, Dobs and Banks, will update now. For admin purposes, Eastleigh (H): Goals for Berry, Mandy and Grigg.

Looking at the lists, I am a little surprised at the low number of assists we have from the full back areas. No player in these positions have let us down in any way but Cook likes his full backs to bomb on.

That said Sheckleford, who’s had a very good season, has no assists in the league whereas King, who has not been given much game time at all, has 3 to his name.

On the other flank, both Horton and Freckleton have 2 assists.

Not a single full back has scored yet which emphasises how well King performed in the previous 2 seasons from an attacking point of view.

There is an obvious reason, Sheks explained that he invariably has a defensive marking job and only occasionally does he have the license to bomb forward.

No full backs scoring a goal yet is quite a stat when we’ve scored as many as we have. Did Mandeville score whilst playing right back?

He might have scored from a direct free kick but not open play. A lot of his early season goals and assists came from set pieces from memory....which could be wrong!

Having said that, I don’t think I’ve seen a single game when he has not got well forward on several occasions. Same with Horton, Freckleton and Clements.

Obviously, whatever we are doing is working for us and each of the full backs mentioned, King included, have performed very well this season when called upon. As such, the lack of goals isn’t a criticism but more of a surprise when it is considered how freely we have been scoring this season. In fact, the total goal contribution from the entire defence is extremely low in such a successful season which has rendered numerous attacking dead ball situations.

Well, how far does charity stretch?

From memory, Mandeville’s cross, or shot, didn’t go directly to Grigg it only got there by deflection.

If so, isn’t there a similar argument for King’s deflection to Dobra?
