Very difficult not to be moved watching Berry van Peer in his game against Gary Anderson yesterday clearly struggling with dartitis, it's the clearest case of it I've ever seen on live tv. Anderson behaved impeccabley even whispering words of encouragement to the lad, that was in contrast to Whitlock the previous day who was genuinely put off and frustrated by it, but in Whitlock defence he probably wasn't fully aware of the situation and Anderson had the benefit of hindsight. But it's a question of whether this playing out on live tv is doing van Peer more harm than good and he has at least one more group game left to play.

I didn't see it but read about it last night. Not nice seeing someone fall to bits like that. Was it John Van Der Velde(sp) who fell to peices during the open??

i know about the golf incident but I can't remember if he got emotional or was just resigned to it. Van Peer was really overcome.

Van de Velde as much made daft decisions as suffered a blockage.
The equivalent in golf is the 'yips' which can affect putting (players jump with or jerk the putter) or the swing. With the swing yips, players can end up stood over the ball, completely unable to initiate the swing. Horrible to watch. Kevin Na had a bad episode a few years ago. Stenson has suffered also.

The most high profile case of Dartitis was Eric Bristow.

However rubbish he does have a " reluctance(spl ) to release the dart " which I thought was the major symptom of dartitis
