Yep. That’s that. Dump of a place. Alnmouth and Embleton the biggest dumps. Definitely don’t go.

I used to love Scarborough, went with British Coal a few times for the annual competitions but last time I went it was in a very poor state.
Newquay was a big draw for stag and hen parties and as such is full of grotty b&bs, naff fast food and cheap ale joints, however the beaches there are superb and the hotel on the top of the hill is excellent. The rest of Cornwall is lovely and there are loads of fantastic beaches. North Devon beaches (Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe) are excellent as well.

We go that way once a year, spend most of the time on Crantock beach, it’s class for paddling and paddle boarding on the gannet.
Regarding Scarborough we’ve just put our caravan there for the season in a place called Snainton, absolutely beautiful place and the surrounding area is unbelievable

For all: Northumberland is dreadful. Don't go there. Encourage people to stay away. Hideous place. And remember don't go, definitely don't go.
If you want somewhere nearly as hideous try Redcar and it’s closer.

Lots of very nice places on that road through from Scarborough to Pickering and easy into the coast in a few places from there as well. Driven through Snainton loads of times.

ah, the places of my childhood. Love Westward Ho!, although havent been now for nearly 10 years.
As for it being a pig of a drive, I'd rather drive to Cornwall than deal with the joys of flying - but you cant guarantee the weather in the Uk and I still have a lot of world to see so tolerate flying....

Love Redcar.
We're not creatures of habit but we park up outside the Stray Cafe. We order a bacon and sausage sandwich and sit outside to enjoy the sun then we walk on the beach right up to the old steel works. Then on our return, we stop off at Pacittos for an ice cream! We've spent many a Sunday afternoon doing that, especially when we had our old dog, he loved the place!
For those who love Northumberland, although the beach is good at Redcar that's where the similarities end!

We've become regular visitors after only visiting for the first time a couple of years ago. We stop in Beadnell.
We’ve been up quite a bit over the years but spent the last two new years in Seahouses and already booked in for this new year as well.
Plans normally change each time but we always includes the walk up the beach from Seahouses to Bamburgh to come out by the castle. Recently as tumbled across a restaurant called the pot and lobster which is brilliant. I’ve always wanted to play cricket at bamburgh but never managed it as yet.
