Meanwhile the televised series doesn't even begin to reflect the depth of Dick's 'The Man in the High Castle'.

Superb...

Just found the series on Amazon. I'll be tuning in tonight after I've finished bingeing Bosch Legacy.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Try his 'Time Odyssey' series co-written with Stephen Baxter.

And if you're a Sci-fi fan I'd also recommend Harry Harrison's 'West of Eden' trilogy.

Wow. The book must be astonishing, because I thought ‘The man in the high castle ‘ tv series was absolutely brilliant.
Will get the book now, thank you..

Arthur C Clarke and Stephen Baxter’s ‘The Light of Other Days’ is very thought-provoking, exploring how wormhole technology makes travel instantaneous, destroys human privacy, and then gets used to travel back in time, including to observe whether biblical stories were true or not (with inevitable social consequences). Baxter’s imagination is incredible- I always remember reading his ‘Flux’, about a civilisation of tiny humans existing within a neutron star and travelling around using pigs which propel themselves with farts. His book ‘Evolution’ is phenomenal, covering human evolution from mammals in the dinosaur era to 500 million years hence when humanity will have regressed to a chemically tree-dependent type of mammal whilst descendants of our robotic creations will have left to colonise the stars.

Got that for Christmas too 😂. If he was “traditionally” thought of as better looking and sounded less like a toff then I think he’d have been very electable.

Only got through the first two chapters on my dog walk this morning and my opinion of him has changed already. You summed up my initial thoughts perfectly.

I'm not well read, but do enjoy certain genres. Wilbur Smith's Ancient Egyptian series is excellent. Lee Child's Reacher, Scott Mariani's Ben Hope series. Anything intertwining historical fact with fiction and lost treasures; Dan Brown, Clive Cussler etc.

Grateful for any recommendations along those lines.

One of the best books I’ve ever read is “The Burning Shore” by Wilbur Smith. If you haven’t read it and you’re a fan of his I’d highly recommend it.

Sam Bourne books are along the same line. The Righteous Men is the first.

The Tom Wood books about Victor (the assassin) are consistently good. I think I’ve read them all.

The Crooked Spire Killings by Alan Hurndall.

NF book about the Chesterfield Serial killer. Who knew!!? Very good book depicting the murders in the 60s but also about the town, its industry and pubs. Even covers Wingerworth where he killed one of his victims.

Chesterfield called “the gay capital of the North”….dont tell some posters on here…..

What lies between us: John Marrs.

Twisty, turny thriller. Written well enough and really enjoyed for a quick read.
