What nick drake compilation is it?

It's called 'A Treasury' - can borrow it for free from the library, took it back there this morning as just couldn't get into it.

Tim if you never listen to any other album I urge you to listen to "pink moon" by nick drake. It's the final album he made, mostly just him and his guitar.

I know I keep going on a out him but he really is that good. A very troubled man who's life was pretty much at its end when he recorded it, in the final stage of his life, recorded in the early hours of the morning in a room with him facing the wall and back to everyone else (allegedly) yet it's one of the most beautiful records you'll ever hear. Forgive me as I'm drunk but sat here with headphones in listening to it now but I can't big this album up enough.

I've got it upstairs. I've got a box set of three of his. I'll dig it out later or listen to it on rdio.com through the cans.

I've blasted out three albums in my new car which I've not heard for a while today -

The streets - everything is borrowed

The move - greatest hits

Curtis mayfield - superfly

All great albums

If you haven't done it fella get this rdio thing. You get a week where you can sync anything you want to your phone for nothing, then it goes straight onto 6 months free (usually £4.99, and you don't need to put in card details) that you can use from another device.

Presumably the same as on my notebook. You can listen to pretty much anything advert free. Like Spotify Premium but no cost.

Cheers Tim ill check them out.

Ill have to say the thing I've listened to most lately is an album called "the courage of others" by a band called midlake. It's an album I'd had in the house for ages but lately just got round to putting it on. Can't even remember why I bought it or even if I did (i may have borrowed it)It's beautiful though. Very melancholy. I've looked them up and they've two other albums which ill be getting.

Listened to fives leave left by nick drake and either/or by Elliott smith aswell today.

Midlake are brilliant.

Not listened to the album you've mentioned, but Bamnam and Slivercork, and The Trials of Van Occupanther are good.
Roscoe and Head Home off the latter are great tracks. Extremely Fleetwood Mac-esque.
Mug?? Being wrong never gets boring!

Very medieval folk sounding band at times, quite unique in the current scene. I could imagine them writing a brilliant soundtrack for a film about The Plague, or The Hobbit!

Played a snoop dogg album I've always liked and decided to check him up on the net to see what he's up to these days.

He is now snoop lion. A reggae artist apparently. Isn't it funny how life works out.

They're the albums I need to listen to mate. From the reviews I've read the courage of others is totally different to the other two. Really need to purchase the other two.

Have you heard dr dog?

Have listened to a few tracks off The Courage of Others tonight on Youtube, and they sound similar to the 'Van Occupanther' album.
Their first one is very different. More experimental, lo-fi electronic rock, compared to the folk/prog tone of the others.

Not heard of Dr Dog, but just looked em up on wiki, and they sound like my sort of thing. Any standout tracks I should be listening to?

I can appreciate Pink Moon but I can't say I draw much pleasure listening to it. Hooks and melodies are in rather short supply to my ear.

If you like a bit of Electronica try Flume.

I'm sure hell back me up on ronnie lanes solo work - never mind the band he was in and how amazing the were

Aye, Reuben's a mate of mine.

His solo work eclipsed anything he did with The Small/Faces. The Poacher is a genius at work, as is most of his Slim Chance stuff. Taken far too young at 51.

I've been listening to Midlake for years, since hearing Edith Bowman play 'Head Home' as her record of the week....knowing you like the same stuff as me, I should have pegged ya really! Lol.

Try Saturday Sun Tim, from Five Leaves Left. For me, it doesn't get much more melodic and meaningful.

Yep. Like that mate. Beautiful harmonies. Gonna see if I can D/L the album.
