Take 2013/14 season as an example.

We were champions of division 2 and lost near on £1.1M. Running with your idea, what bonus should CT have picked up that season based on our league position?

He should have been sacked.

it would suggest that incentivising such deals works?

However, whether you could argue if such deals are always for the good of the squad/team in another matter.

50K cut for CT,that makes me feel sick, this is why we will never get anywhere as it's in our CEO's interest to sell our best players, performance related bonus based on our league position is the way forward.

Unfortunately that isn't the real problem, just one of the symptoms. Even if the CEO has no bonus from selling players the problems at the club would persist. The issue is people in positions who are totally unsuited to them.
Above Freelander cites the last promotion season and the financial results. As he says the club lost over £1,000,000. However, no one appeared to be doing anything to address this, in fact CFC signed a Dan Gardner in January which would have increased the net spend. This leaves 2 possibilities - either they budgeted for a large loss or were unaware the club was losing £20,000 a week. The actions and reactions since those figures came out strongly suggest it was not a loss that was budgeted for.
This leaves us looking at the uncomfortable fact that the man charged with running the club had no idea what was being spent where, and no idea of what income was being generated where and when. This man is still in position, with the same responsibilities.

According to the DT barnsleys first bid was 150k. Don't know second bid but my guess 250k. 3rd bid 500k? Is it worth risking our L1 status for this money or better to wait til Jan when we will have a good idea where we are likely to finish this season?

to be fair, most of the players sales conducted recently have been good deals for the club.

Except the Eoin Doyle transfer - we held all the cards & should have sold him in the summer!

I doubt they'd jump that much

if the £150k first bid is accurate, then id expect the third to be not more than £250k

A £3 million price tag keeps us thinking they're showing commitment, accepting considerably less gives them the chance to say 'when the championship come knocking' etc etc. It also means somebody in the know talks to local journo's far too much.

It's brinkmanship guys - the club have an acceptable figure in their minds eye. It's now or never because of Bolys contract situation. We are making noises to placate the fanbase. Barnsley will be trying to come across as low key interested.

IT'S A GAME BUT FOR US A VERY SERIOUS POINT IN TIME.

God I hate this league.

Agreed, the man is clearly not up to the job,any other owner would have fired him by now, something is clearly amiss at the Proact at boardroom level.
Can't wait for our owner to start moaning about lack of people at home games, you reap what you sow DA.

Why would we not put a price tag on him?

Because if we put a £3m price tag on him and only accept £750k then he might aswell be slung on a pasting table outside the ground on a Sunday morning with a sign that says "any offers accepted". Infact we might aswell chuck SEB onto that same table with a sign that says BOGOF.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

How would selling Ariyibi encourage people in two minds to return on Saturday, perhaps having missed the first two game?

Not sure of your point there

selling/keeping Gboly wont determine whether we are relegated or not.

It might play a significant part though, especially if Ched leaves.

My big concern with the sale of Ariyibi(if it happens) is that any fees received after paying out any alleged bonuses will go to help cashflow rather than funds for reinvestment in the squad.
My only hope is that DA and AC see this player as a more valuable asset and will hang on for a bigger fee as they have previously stated how much they think of him

If the top offer is £500k and he continues to improve, would he be worth less than that in January?
I share your concern as our first team has no depth and needs strengthening as it is.

The asset's value is limited for a number of reasons.

He looks good in our league at times, in the grand sceme of things he's still a big gamble for the buyer - that will be reflected on any offers made.

I agree, if he performed consistently week in week out his value would be considerably higher. Possibly at a higher level player may stand off which may suit his game. Possibly he will only make the bench for a championship squad and be an impact player until he earns his place.

The point is - he is starting to perform consistently week in week out.
