Utter tripe about Hird's passing, Evo is worse.

What's up, "poor man's Gardner" had a good game so find someone else to moan about?

We won ffs, cheer up.

Correct. He could have. But the card was shown purely because of the reaction by the Port Vale players and bench. Not because the ref saw it as a yellow card right from the off because he allowed play to continue and never blew for the challenge.
Anyhow.
Caldwell needed that today, strangely enough I think that we still have a couple of more gears yet, so whilst the players are gelling at the moment if we can be within shouting distance of the top teams by Christmas then we can look forward to a successful season. A little mention for Wiseman who looked good today, my MOTM.

The card was shown because it was a booking. He didn't whistle initially because it was that late he had followed the ball and didn't see the challange,he was informed by his assistant. The assistant confirmed a yellow card offence through the mic. It wasn't a reaction to the Vale bench.
The Vale bench were exactly the same as last season devoid of any tactical input but good at moaning at officicals

I'm away so didn't see the game yesterday. Reports suggest that the tactical change swung the game in our favour though GC seems to say it was the same players trying harder!

We weren't lucky.

Nor were we convincing.

We were the better of two ordinary outfits on the day.

But y'know what?

I don't really care, as it's just good to have a winning feeling for the first time in far, far too long...

In fairness I think it was GC trying to give credit to the players and not wanting it to be given for the tactical change. The change did make a difference but the players responded well and for a period we looked a good side.

On cue, now see yesterday's highlights, and see who was instrumental in both our goals.

Not seen them. Was there a hint of offside for the first?

Yes, I must say I said that at the time, and, unless there is an unseen defender on the highlights, it does look as if Dennis has run offside. No doubt folk in line will tell us how they saw it.

Managers always seem to play down the tactical aspects of the game, presumably in an attempt to divert the praise to the players rather than themselves. Pretty sure the players were trying hard throughout the match, it was Caldwell's decision to switch to four at the back (Barry, Evo, Hird and Wiseman at LB) and put Flores in midfield which got us a foothold in the game.

Our first goal was one we'd normally concede. If I recall, Tommy claimed the ball, passed to Hird who passed to Sinnott who played in Dennis, there was so much room in midfield and that's usually us on the receiving end so nice for it to work for us this time.

Edit; didn't see Half Full's post which says similar above

Just seen the highlights. Very close but I'm reassured by the fact that their manager didn't mention it after the match. He's perhaps seen another angle.

It's perhaps the defender who comes into view as Dennis receives the ball who played him onside; Dennis certainly seems to be ahead of Smith if you stop the action just as Sinnott plays the ball in.

I see they had to keep Ashley Carson away from those bibles to prevent him bursting into flames...

What I was getting at was Caldwell not admitting that his beloved 3 at the back was failing, so he put the credit on players trying harder rather than playing a back 4. If that makes sense.

But the 3 at the back is a base for him to work from. Ok, so it might not have worked for him fully yet but what GC has done (and never had credit for) is that he's assembled a squad that he can tweak during game time without the need to make substitutions all the time. Just like yesterday, he saw the fault and pushed a player who had only been at the club 24hrs into a position where he influenced the game. We can adapt to different formations and each player knows his role and if he does make a substitution to change the game he has a bench that he can put players into different positions to be able to adapt and not look like a square peg in round holes.
3 right footed players in defence yesterday and Wiseman on the left looked every bit as comfortable as DD ever did.

Maybe if people looked at what he's building instead of his record from last season the criticism of him would relent some.

Are you suggesting he is a tactical genius?
