McAuley has a strong reputation with players and coaches alike. However, I'm not convinved he's the type of appointment we need.
True, he's not someone who is proven at getting a club promoted and if he's only previously been caretaker manager for a mere 4 games what's to say he's going to be any better than Rico has been for us?
If we are going to have someone who is currently academy manager as our new manager with a managerial career spaning 4 games then i don't see that much difference with giving a chance to Dave Bentley. Unless MacAuley has achieved better than Bentley in the last three years.
If Allen insists that Sean Mac is the person to take us forward then i will back him as Allen knows a lot more about him than any of us, but 4 first team games isn't an awful lot to go on, even though 3 were wins. I'd still prefer someone who's actually achieved some form of promotion before preferably from this division.
Re John Still, he's bound to be on more money if he comes here, and has worked wonders at D&R, but does he really want a job this far north given that he's spent most of his career in the south of england. Also despite most of his success being at getting teams promoted to the football league he hasn't done an awful lot at clubs once at this level, his best is perhaps at present. He was also manager at Barnet when they got relegated from the football league. Perhaps the only time he's previously managed at a club as big as us was when he was at Peterborough in which he won 19 out of 67 games, he seems more suited to smaller clubs, having said that he's 59 years old so could now be at his prime as a manager. One other thing, if D&R get promoted through the play offs it pretty much rules the bloke out.
