If you are betting on flat, surely you need to see them in the paddock but, more importantly on the way to post. Especially 2-3 year olds?
It depends on how you bet on horse racing, you’re talking about on course betting, there’s a few methods of betting on course such as paddock viewing, I knew one guy who used to watch all weather racing and he used to lip read the bookies and watch where he sent the runners to put large bets on and basically followed the money at places like Southwell and Wolves.
I rarely get to a race course these days so the only bets I have are on the large group races and handicaps where I have all the data and trends for the previous 12 runnings of the race, I match all the relevant stats to the entrants and profile potential winners that way. When the prices become available I weigh up if it’s a value bet or not and make my decision. I use trainer stats, sire info, ground conditions, jockey bookings, etc to assist me, I spent several days focusing on a small handful of races and that’s how I make my selections, this week I’ve been looking at group races at Salisbury, Cork, Leopardstown, Curragh, Newbury and a couple of big handicaps from Ripon.
