Southgate sees sense.

No liability Maguire, no showpony Grealish and actually picking players in form...

Maguire was injured so can?t credit him with that, but he?s been one of our most reliable players since becoming a regular starter and the team is weaker for his absence. I?m disappointed that Dunk has been taken over Braithwaite, who is the natural replacement for Maguire, plus he plays club football with Pickford. Really pleased that we?re taking Wharton too. I like the team overall.

Guehi.

I like the squad overall but would have taken Branthwaite over Dunk.

I'd have taken Grealish. We need players who can come of the bench and change the game, we need players that frighten the opposition into wanting to foul them or drags two players to mark him

So many fans of Dobra on here but Grealish is the England equivalent and we are glad he is left behind.

Typical Southgate for me, take the safe options. He rarely plays to scare the opposition so maybe its right Grealish isnt included...

We'll miss Maguire.

Maguire has never let England down. Far from being a liability. Gutted for him tbh.

He's injured. That's the reason he's been left out. Wouldn't have been fit until any knock out games.

I think this is the only one i disagree with too.

Branthwaite probably a future centre back for us, just take him.

I just think it was between him and Eze, and Eze has had a much better season, is in much better form etc.

I went on Monday night and Grealish did make a difference when he came on I agree, but we?ve taken a lot of attackers this time, so definitely not played it safe.

I don?t think Grealish would?ve been a starter so suppose he?s looking for what sort of impact someone will make off the bench. I guess he?s going for more pace with Gordon and Palmer (who have also been in better form).

After becoming the fall guy for United and England boo boys Maguire kept his head down, worked hard and forced him self back into the U tied team and maintained his England shirt. He?ll be a big miss!

I thinknthis is Southgate's last roll of the dice to bring back a trophy.
Imo, it looks like he's panicking by suddenly axing chucks of his old team and going straight into a major competition with a squad who's players are in decent domestic form, but not played together is a sign of desperation.
These players should have been properly integrated through previous friendlies and not chucked together last minute.
But, you never know. His last role of the dice might be a double six

Who would you say he?s axed undeservedly?

Southgate has been criticised in the past for sticking with the old names, he picks some fresh exciting talent and he's criticised....guy cant win.

For me i'm ok with Grealish not making it as i'm not sure he's been that great this season....3 goals and 1 assist all season in that City side isnt a great return and there is a lot of competition for that sort of position in the team now.

Those who have been axed - fair enough.
I'm saying this should have happened through the dead rubber friendlies so a 'new team' has time to gel. Not give them two games to get used to each other and hope to win a tournament

As someone pointed out on X -
Jarrod Bowen 43 games 20 goals 10assist
Cole palmer 39 games 24 goals 13 assist
So he?s going with form.

I guess the unlucky one is Branthwaite, many suggesting that if Maguire had been fit Branthwaite may have gone, but he?s gone with Dunk and Gomes as they have more experience (at Club level at least)

The inclusion of Shaw worries me, obviously our best left back but if his fitness fails us, I can?t see the obvious replacement there.

Overall the squad has some mouthwatering forward players and a defence that worries me. Will Southgate adopt the Paul Cook 2023/24 approach to games?
