    No.

His 'party' has one MP. Who hasn't even faced his constituents since defecting. Same as the Greens who, bizarrely, receive only a fraction of the media attention he does.

And far fewer than either the Scot' Nat's and LD's.

Sunak heads the Government, SKS the Opposition. Democracy dictates they have the right to face off...

There is no govt, it was disbanded. There are no MPs likewise...

And there is a 4 way leaders debate with Sunak, Starmer, Davey and the SNP chap on BBC QT leaders special... now they are chosen based on leading the 4 largest parties, but historical and not current projected polling....

What is labour's policy on immigration, by the way...?

But we've a tory party desperate for summat to shout about to in some way slow their slide towards oblivion, alongside contributors who've spent five or more years championing them and a supposedly successful Brexit.

    Yet...

As for the LD's, yeah, I find their stance on Europe and a fair percentage of what the Greens are saying quite appealing. However I'm hoping we'll see something along the lines of what New Labour did in '97.

Win a majority by appealing to the centre ground, apply strict financial constraints to stabilise the economy (they were often criticised for paralleling Major's policies), then pursue a more socialist agenda when growth allowed.

Oh, and as said, re-align with the EU over a period of time...

Genuine question - how do you feel about sixteen year olds having a say over who runs the country?

The election is about the future and not the past, but I think they may have mentioned the forecast highest growth rate in Europe over the next 5 years or whatever the stat was. Of course, you dont seem to have mentioned that Labour arent talking about anything in the future other than we will be financially prudent, the extra money will come from growth, you dont need to know any more. I'd say talking about a party saying nothing about something is pretty ironic really...

So you think we should realign (aka rejoin) with Europe over time? Do you think the Scots should have a second bite at independence? And if we dont like the vote for this election can we claim someone lied and ask for another one...?

I dont think 16 year olds should be allowed to vote. We dont think they are old enough to trust with a car, or alcohol, or to take on debt or own property - but they can choose the govt? maybe at the next election there will be free arcade games on the manifesto to appeal to the 16 year olds..

    Heh-heh, good shout.

    But here's the thing.

The Tories currently getting their y-fronts into folds over sixteen year olds deciding who's PM allow fifteen year old members to vote in their leadership contests.

In other words kids who hadn't even left school possibly played a part in putting May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak into Number Ten long before the adult electorate had a say.

So next time a member of the party which illegally prorogued Parliament or one of it's massed ranks of mates in the Mail-esque media bleat about democracy, you've every right to shout the word 'hypocrite' straight back at 'em...

Speaking of democracy, do you think Farage should be allowed to engage in the leaders debate and discuss immigration with Starmer?

The usual speel scrutinizing the labour manifesto but so little of the Tory one. Just like Mr Mercury. The difference is Mr M has blue blood you say you don't 🤔

Like Labour the Tories have some interesting views on where the money will come from, and have missed some opportunities to find ways to cut the costs around the NHS and public sector pay. However, unlike Labour they have at least outlined some policies...

    Better?

2029s election should be fun, look at these stats....

    2030
NHS black hole grows as population ages
One of the biggest dilemmas Sir Keir would face heading into his second term is how to afford huge increases in spending to cope with Britain?s ageing population.

Spending on health is projected to have to increase to 10.1pc of national wealth by 2030, up from 8.1pc at present, as pressure on the NHS and social care grows.

Inevitably that means the Labour leader would have to decide whether to further ramp up taxes on working people to pay for the increasing cost of looking after the elderly.

By 2033 it is projected health spending will hit ?278bn up from the current ?182bn, leaving the Labour leader with an almost ?100bn sized black hole to fill

The huge spike in spending will come about as the end of the decade marks a major demographic tipping point for the UK as, for the first time, one in 10 of the population will be over 75.

At the same time the proportion of under 25s will fall to just a quarter, as Britain becomes an increasingly ageing society.

The paradox is that the country is about to elect potentially the worst government in modern times with potentially the biggest majority in modern times.
It?s even starting to unravel before they?ve got the keys to No10.

They will have to go some to beat Boris....who also had a big majority. Are you suggesting the public shouldnt be allowed to choose if they keep choosing these idiots..?

    Hi,
Sorry to bother you. I believe you worked for a hotel chain in London and previously had access to discount codes.
It’s a bit of a long shot and very last minute. But could you let me know if this is still the case.
I only ask as my part is due to go to London on Friday and the hotel she was booked into has canceled last minute.
    Thanks
    Andy ...

Thanks for the invite - would have loved to have joined you but I am moving house tomorrow so day not in the office or in London!
Might have joined as the political conversations might have been more up my street than most on the board!

If you live in London, you're welcome to join a couple of Spireites tomorrow (Monday) evening where the main topic of conversation will be Chesterfield FC amongst other things. All very friendly. We'll be in the Williamson Tavern near St Pauls about 7.30. Sorry for the short notice.
    regards
    John
