What automatic placings :(

All play off teams are now on 43 points, we can't drop out of the play off's for a couple of games as ....ah bumhole, Morecambe have got a last minute winner so they're in 8th place on 42 points.

it puts the season into perspective, when we are only 1 point infront of morecambe
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART

Without roche - would we be in automatic places instead.

Agree about Ward, he's had a few games but just the odd goal isn't good enough - however where did he play most of the game today (i know he started on the left midfield). I'm guessing today we lost out in midfield and that was the big difference again, on SW they said their better players were midfielders so i guess we hadn't got the quality to match them, one things for sure this week we can't blame the ref for their goals.

It also puts the 2-2 draw at home to them into perspective too, i bet most folk thought they were going to finish bottom.

:( I'm a bit slow today :P

I agree, for me the midfield is to light! We need somebody to put the foot on the ball and take the pressure off! Mark Allott anyone? :P

Makes the next two home games massive!
Why do we keep putting the pressure on oursleves when we have a terrible home record as well :( Could it be a third signing next week before the cameras? fingers crossed for some experiance in the middle of the park!

Winter could be our new allott, but he isn't there yet, problem is we need someone now, not in a few months/years time, we need an old head in midfield - someone who has been there done that for a number of years and is dependable (someone about 29/30ish), problem is who we can afford and why they are available, we usually end up with a very young player or an old crock.

Allott is in the oldham side as well now, so rules out any chance of a return, but we all know he doesn't want to play in this division so he wouldn't come anyway.

I agree! It's not as easy as town fans make out! And would be a lot easier if we get promoted as we would have more money for wages and a player is more likely to join a 1st division side than a 2nd! But is our midfield good enough to take us up? That's the million dollar question! God, what I'd give for Allott back (yeah I know it's not going to happen but it's exactly the type of player we need), for me it would be problem solved and 1st division here we come! Let's hope Rico has somebody lined up and convinces them of joining a side which is at the moment only dreaming about the automatics places.

It will be interesting to hear the thinking behind putting Jamie Lowry wide of midfield, it's not a position I like to see him play.

I also wonder how much of our defensive problems are of our own making today through the possible use of the long ball with no Fletch or Chief in the forward line.

Watch it mate, when i suggested there's too much "hump-it-and-hope" last week i was told to "shut up and go home".

And Spireite-Karl ought to go steady when suggesting that selling our Club Captain for only £10K was a bad move. Good grief, that implies those running the show don't know what they're doing!

Heaven forbid.

Wardy started up front with Jack and switched to left midfield at half-time.

We should have been behind at half-time because Leven, the only midfielder with the quality to put his foot on the ball, was stuck out wide left where his lack of mobility allowed Brentford space. Meanwhile, Niven and Winter both ran around like headless chickens, barely able to get near the ball. I'm not blaming Derek or Jamie for this- the management got the formation wrong, but to their credit did switch things around at half-time. Niven and Leven looked a much better central combination but alas, when Brentford scored their second, the fight seemed to drain away from most of the lads.
These go to eleven.

I think we are good enough to get in the play off's, our goal difference is another point to us.

Whether we can win the play off lottery is another think, if we get to the final but lose i'll be happy enough i suppose as we'll get the revenue so we can build on it next season and spend the money on the areas of the team that we can't seem to correct this season, plus i'd rather have two seasons near the top of a division than one near the top and one near the bottom of division one (which is how next year will probably work out).

I'd rather us get promoted this season and strengthen in the summer though due to the quality of opposition, plus we need to go straight up in order to keep Jack and Leven with us next year.

I can't imagine why would need another Mark Allott. Chesterfield would never get promoted with Mark Allott in the side. He was the most negative (although skillful) midfielder Town have ever had but never got forward enough and didn't score enough goals. Bit nesh as well if I may say so.

What that team that beat Everton last week?

With all this talk about play off's surely we need to think about the end result, like if we get into the play off's and nearly go up, just saying that if we lost in the play off final it won't have been that bad as we will have the revenue, what we will need to do is spend it wisely to ensure we do get promoted next season. That's all. Still plenty of time left this season though and a couple of wins on the bounce and we'll all be talking about automatic promotion again.
