Can't see the young Forest lad threatening Downes position. The only player at the club who could put Gregors position under pressure is O'Hare who seems right out of favour.

Taken from Forest site:
The Irish teenager was crowned 'Young Player of the Year' last season following a marvellous campaign at Academy, reserve and first team level.
He underlined his impressive versatility by operating in a number of positions, culminating in his elevation to the first team squad and his debut as a substitute in a 1-0 win over Gillingham in March '07.
Although primarily regarded as a right back, he's equally comfortable in the centre of defence and also operated in midfield at times last season.
He has a keen eye for goal - as he demonstrated by bagging the winning goals in a couple of reserve games - and is poised for a big future at The City Ground
i agree he does sound good, however young ben algar won young player of the year and players player of the year, and also made 2 appearences for the first team, why are we not using our own young players ??

Only Rico could give you the full low down on that, and I'd imagine, like the vast majority of other managers ... some of what he's thinking about the situation will never make it to the public domain (except in his autobiography in a few years time!! )
Having this forum providing the vast majority of my info for CFC I'm not in the best of positions to know ... and I don't claim to have an answer ... but I figured I'd throw my tuppence in!
Most folks seemed impressed by Algar's performances ... then he got injured ... then according to the reports of anyone on here who went to the youth matches and saw him play ... he'd gone off the boil considerably. Though in recent weeks his form seems to have taken a turn for the better ... so the reports have suggested.
Maybe Rico's seen what's happened with a number of young players who've come 'through the ranks' ... he's seen Smith's potential ... then the change to someone we're loaning out in League 2!, Jackson too and the promise not being realised yet ... the following is all conjecture on my part, but maybe he's taking a slightly longer term view.
If I remember rightly, and I may not, so please say if I'm wrong ... Algar's debut came about at a bit of an injury crisis time ... it was more of a forced hand than anything else. Algar rose to the challenge and did the business ... sweet! At that point the manager has crucial choices ... and has to be so very observant about how the player reacts ... what if there's a reduction in effort in training ... what if there's a bit more of an attitude of 'I've made it'? I'm not saying that it's got to be OTT either ... it could be simple things, small things ... but if Rico sees that and thinks, 'hang on, I want to see this guy become the player for CFC that everyone knows he could become, I don't want another Smith, or Jackson" then Rico has to act on things we'll never be privvy to. That's one of the calls he's paid to make.
I'm not saying we shouldn't ask questions, absolutely, it's a fans right/need/desire/passion ... all I'm meaning is that for some decisions it's a case of whether you trust the manager or not. Given what's happened in the club in the past with younger players, and given what folks on here have said, and given how Rico has done thus far ... I'd be prepared to trust that he's making the right call for the future of the club and will happily pick the younger players, when they're ready physically and emotionally to cope.

some good points made, but also watching the lad have a very good game then almost never giving him a sniff of the first team squad probably hasnt boosted the young mans confidence too much, particularly when we have been screaming out for someone on the bench who at least has a chance of turning a game around.
but as you say,its the managers call.

And what does it say to Gaz Davies and Alan O'Hare, who must have at least a few hundred first team appearances between them, that they're offered for loan whilst Richardson prefers "kids"?
Let's say it loud and clear: what we desperately need is a midfielder that can create and/or steady things when our inexperienced players once again press the panic button.
Y' know, a Mark Allott type.....

It says theyre not good enough..... which they arent.
Whether the ones coming in are any better , is the question on which Rico will be judged.
