 Never thought it was a penalty at the tlme and the SW highlights haven't changed my mind. Did you spot Fletchers cock-up with the header from the throw in which lead to their first goal? Got it all wrong and instead of a flick on ended up heading full on which caught Lowry out and the lightening North turned Downes with ease. Impressed with that young man.
Many a good tune

The SW highlights make it look like a foul on downes, worse case its 50/50.

then AD gets booked!!!
A new hope.

I knew it wasn`t a penalty at the time and having now seen it on video a couple of times I`m even more amazed that the ref could give them a penalty for that. Downes didn`t even challenge the guy and if anything, it was a foul on him!! Some of these decisions referees give are unbelievable......makes you wonder if they`ve got money riding on the result at times.

I didn't have a great opinion on Saturday but was swayed by people with a better view than me who said a definite 'NO' - the highlights show what an appalling decision the ref made, no challenge by Aaron, he did what he should have done at Stanley and stayed put - at least it shouldn't dent his confidence because he did not foul yer man.

Downes got quite a bit of stick after Saturday. In my opinion he didn't do much wrong for the first goal either, the only reason he wasn't closer to North was because North fouled him a couple of seconds earlier and AD was picking himself up off the floor.

He also made a superb defensive header in the first half which was rightly applauded by the kop.

Just adds to the frustration surround us this season...Downes & Kovacs have as much potential as any partnership - they can be awesome on their day.

Perhaps will carry on in this vein and then this silly errors and missed chances will all come home in the last 3 matches of the season and we win the play-offs 5-0, 5-0, 5-0

Just seen it again after seeing it at the match, I was certain it wasn't a penalty the first time i saw it and now after seeing it again, I can only say, it's one of the worst decisions I have ever seen. How in gods name was that a penalty.

I have to say reading ALL these posts that i feel vindicated in my stance on referees,i didn't say anything on this penalty decision until today after i saw it again, but Ashmorel a word of warning about what i have highlighted some nice posters my suggest you are calling the referees cheats, not me though because i know what you mean, this is my last post on the subject as we cannot alter the fact now but i feel sorry for Downes,he cannot do right even though he didn't do anything wrong :P

what did you make of the intervention by Roache on Robertson after the award.? If I didn't know better I would say it looks as though Gregor is going over to smack Downsey before Barry intervenes. Probably just the camera angle.

He's going for the ref not Downes.

It shows what an inept decision it was, because if he's given the penalty, surely Downes was last man and deserved of a red card?

That's one of the worst penalty decisions I've ever seen given against us. Similar to Bailey's at Wednesday a few years ago.

Even at a distance from the Kop I could see there was no foul by Downes whatsoever - one of the most ridiculous decisions I've ever seen, and I'm sure all Grimsby fans and players were amazed it was given.
Downes WAS fouled clearly when they scored their first, and it should have been spotted by the officials.
Not much you can do about games like that, when we played well, controlled the game for 90% of the time, and still lost, except to be more clinical when we get a chance. That's the difference between Jack and the rest - he's got the composure to take a large proportion of the chances he gets.
