[The Ghost of James Higgins]

I've been reading, digesting, worrying even over all the events of recent days.

I was taken as a 7 year old to see my first ever game v Chester in the 70s. My first night game a 0-0 v Blackpool, my first kit in junior school. SOme of my finest memories have been at Old Trafford, Burnden Park, Wembley, Field Mill. Laughed, cried and made me so happy.

Now thank you to people not caring, treating with contempt and using purely as a business I'm sorry football, Chesterfield FC you've utterly lost me.

I'm reading the board...adults arguing, being nasty about a game. A team who don't really seem to care. A team that has Evans as a star. A game that makes PL idiots obscenely rich and arrogant.

I'm sorry Dave, if it's your fault I don't really know. I didn't think I'd ever say it but I'm not sure I really care any more. I hope all the people in charge try and save the club for all you whose love is still there but sorry my love has gone.

Christ, we've got all one with Allen jumping ship without fans doing the same.

Now's the time for fans to pull together and keep the club going not jump ship and let is go to the wall.

Many more happy and sad memories to come, don't give up on them yet. I've been a stay away pretty much for a year or so but now is the time to put that to one side surely and club together!!

I've been watching Town since 74, I've had some good times, and had some bad times. Then we had Darren Brown and thought that we would go to the wall, but we pulled through and have had some good times since (trips to Wembley, promotions, stuffing Rotherscum 5 nil live on telly, to name but a few!).

I'm sure that there are some dark days ahead, but we will survive and the good days will return.

Wasn't just this incident. Not been feeling the buzz for a while. Maybe it'll come back, I don't know.

I wish nothing but the best for those wanting to save the club and will donate to do so myself...just not for my benefit.

I love the game but the money, the experts, the idiots and the businessman have taken it away from what it is. Just a game.

Yeah sorry it wasn't a I'm the biggest fan, I'm not. Just a sense of melancholy that I can do without.

can't blame you for feeling this way, been a decline over 18months now, for me though time to rally, i'm no money person, wish I was but i'm up for helping the club where I can. I wish they would put out a plea for help, everyone can do something and hundreds maybe thousands would, look what happens when they need snow clearing off the pitch, people get involved and do it, so come on cfc, the fans are the best asset you have.

Its not really about charitably devoting time and effort to help the club. Its about finances.

If we cant control the money side with a rich benefactor in charge putting large chunks in and multi-million pound player sales, how the **** are we supposed to control it when this benefactor removes himself, and the playing assets we have suddenly depreciate in value?

i'm sure you are right, I just don't like this feeling of helplessness and if there is something I/we can usefully do then i'd like to. don't like just sitting back and waiting for things to unfold, I suppose its a bit like going to the games, even though i'd be little use out on the pitch, sometimes i'd like to get out there and clear the ball, right now we're watching a different kind of game and it's very frustrating

There's been a tangible feeling of apathy ever since Cookie left. I'll still always support Town, but the only time I've said I'm not going again was after the Swindon game 0 - 4 under Saunders.

The feeling In the ground and concourses was again - tangible - but of one that I've never EVER felt before as a Town fan. I vowed never to go again 'til Saunders had gone, and I REALLY meant it...a very articulate caller to Peak FM succinctly expressed what every Town fan felt, which further cemented my decision.

Then, unbelievably, Dave Allen pulled it out of the bag and sacked Saunders. It was a cold and very miserable night, but the feeling was euphoric, and lifted me and many other Spireites out of the gloom. I started going again straight away. Every match.

Danny did a great job keeping us up, but my huge concern after avoiding relegation has been for the last 6 months - compounded by Higgins-gate, the PPP, sackings of long term trusted employees (big fans too), and a general...again, tangible feeling of concern that something is amiss amongst people close to the club - the impending doom of the accounts in October was what I was dreading, and sure enough, my concerns were justified.

Losing to the Blades wasn't the thing - it's just...where's all the money gone?? Simple as!!

My friend Deats was so frustrated and angry that he borrowed my shades, put a pair of pants on his head and set fire to what appeared to be a tenner in a symbolic protest of how the Club is being run, and seems to be just burning money - just outside the ground. Looks like this has gone viral now!! On a walk up to The Beer Parlour, Deats and I vowed never to go to a Town match again 'til DA was gone.

Sure enough, just days later, DA resigns

Does anyone else want me to vow not to do X until Y happens? It seems to be working!! Obviously "Vow never to post again" will be one of the most inventive and hilarious answers, but I beat you to it

Seriously worried for the future now, though. If it stops the corruption and money haemorrhaging, I'd be happier to resort to AFC Chesterfield, but for one thing - all Spireites need to stick together.

Leicester and Burton are bang up-to-date examples of how the sport is not dead - of where passion and good management can breed success over money. A Wednesday fan I talked to on Tuesday conceded how Burton not only beat them, but annihilated them earlier this season.

There's enough passion at this club to do the same if we all stick together - I'd rather not go down the AFC route, but we need to find out where the bleeding's coming from, and amputate if necessary. I know business is business, but the current interest rate is about half a percent. 5% is 10x that amount, so there's a starter for ten...

I like this post but do you know what the most amazing thing is about it? It took 3 and a half years for you to make it after joining!

I was here a long time ago; I'm very surprised many are not. I've watched, played, coached, managed, and ended up working in the PL....and, that final insight into the game, day to day contact with PL players was enough for me to make a sound judgement.

I see there is a report out today, effectively saying Premier League clubs are sleep walking into a day of reckoning, when Sky and BT decide, 'actually we pay too much for TV rights.'

I suspect it's a forlorn hope.

To be blunt, our Directors have just walked into this without understanding and mitigating the risks to their money. They've been on holiday for 5 years.
