Very sad state of affairs if that is big news don't you think?
I'd like to think a gay player wouldn't get any grief nowadays?

In reality very few will actually care if someone is gay, straight, bi, transexual, transgender or whatever however it's football and there will be some banter just for the hell of it

There'd be a bigger deal about a footballer coming as, than actually being gay! No idea why it's such a taboo thing.. Mental health too! Seems if your a bloke you can't struggle in life or be gay!

These days nobody cares, its just not a taboo subject anymore.I often smile about the BBC reporter who did a feature on homophobia in a match at the city ground between forest and brighton,he interviewed a few people and they kind of said the same as me,then he went into the ground and within 30 seconds you could hear forest fans singing "does your boyfriend know your here "..now the chanting was homophobic in its nature but extremely funny nonetheless,it wasn't individually abusive just mickey taking...am I wrong in thinking that?

It shouldn't matter, but the fact a major tabloid have made it their Saturday headline means it does, I guess.
Truth is most people in football will have a fair idea of a players sexuality, but then why should it matter either way.
We've certainly had an openly bi-sexual player here in recent seasons, so what.

I do think the first big name to publicly come out though will be regarded very highly though and would perhaps be very commercially lucrative for him.

I really can't understand why it's such a big deal, does being gay stop you playing football?

Tabloids are going to sensationalise these things because it sells papers whether we like it or not and premiership footballers are front page headlines nowadays. It's sad that a persons sexuality can and does cause an uproar because of their job.
