I don't see how it can be construed as a ruse. Ched's agent wouldn't have accepted one and it's a no brainer for us.

Lets face it if someone offers £1M before the end of Jan he is gone.

No one is going to offer £1m for him, he hasn't exactly set the world alight has he with just 7 goals since he joined us.

Given we have only one more game before the window shuts, unless he scores 6 on Saturday no one is going to be interested. Obviously if someone was silly enough to offer that kind of money given our financial problems we would sell him.

Its not particularly about what hes done for us, but what he did before. Hes not seen at his best in a cr*p team, but a better team would get more out of him.

If you look at other clubs message boards when we have played them, opposition fans (when they have finished shouting abuse at him), rate him far more highly than a lot of town fans. When we played Bradford recently, after they had been linked with him, their message board was full of praise for him and how he had played against them.

In return I'm sure there'll be some sort of clause allowing him to speak to any club offering a certain figure.

Win-win, really, especially if his undoubted efforts are rewarded by a few more goals.

Infact if Martinez lives up to his Championship billing at any point it'll be interesting to see if a change of 'ammunition' might help facilitate that...
