I find this astonishing.

Over the last couple of weeks I have seen some awful things said about her by adults.

Without wishing to patronise her, she is a 16 year old kid with a passion to make the world a better place. Whether we agree with the way she does things or not, she's just a kid. The bullying and vitriol aimed at her is shocking.

In my opinion its good to see a kid with a bit of fire in her belly and a passion for something important. What it must be like for her family to see some of this stuff doesn't bare thinking about.

Whether she "looks like an Eskimo" or you find her "a bit annoying" is irrelevant with regard to the point she is trying to make. It would be nice if people like those who wrote the article could counter argue without the bullying tactics. She's just a kid.

She's a kid who's simply quoting science.

Facts, figures, evidence.

And that's something the immensely powerful fossil fuel industry with all it's trillions of dollars and countless lobbyists can't argue against.

So as with anyone losing an argument they resort to smears...

Is it a bad thing? Are you Eskimo-ist? I wish I looked like an Eskimo.

Not just the fossil fuel industry arguing - I’d forgotten about this little gem

Going vegan is definitely the way to go but though this is fine for adults, I’ve heard some horror stories of vegan parents’ imposition of their diet on their kids harming their physical development. Perhaps Goku could enlighten me on this point.

Hey. Yeah of course. You can only manage that if you’re wilfully dumb and try substituting Mother’s/Cow’s milk with something like Oat milk which doesn’t have the same nutritional profile, or if you’re underfeeding the child anyway. A number of kids die from malnourishment per year across the world due to parental negligence but when it’s the baby of vegan parents it’s a better story because it feeds into the whole ‘vegans are malnourished’ narrative which people eat up. That’s not to say you don’t have to be a bit smarter about what you feed your child but it’s fairly easy, me and my three year old’s Mum haven’t had any problems with it.

This is an example https://www.google.c...t-11147678/amp/

Like.. obviously that’s not something you should do. It’s the result of idiocy, not the result of a properly planned vegan diet.

I know some regard Shellenberger a shill for the nuclear industry but I find his more measured And nuanced approach more convincing.

But dismisses a key point - extinction caused by humans as almost incidental because it’s ok, humanity will pull through. It’s not ok, destruction of habitat, loss of species and diversity is one way. Do do’s didn’t come back.

Nominated person of the year.Thing is, the tech already exists to make a difference. JC wants to nationalise power, fine, IMO, a sensible policy. But that is it. Nothing saying we will build reservoir to sore water, released at peak demand to generate power into lagoons to be pumped back at nigh in periods of quiet, and storing renewable energy is a major issue. No mention of new nuclear power plants, a bridge between now and the future to buy time. Nationalise rail, again a good idea. So let’s take the failing steel industry in to, invest in proper rail services using UK products. No mention of this either, just nationalise rail.Free broadband - nonsense, but a nationalised fibre network linking power, water, sewage, homes etc so a central service provider can provide what is needed, where it’s needed would be great national asset and charges that cover costs. Again, a good idea ruined by political nonsense.Free education for all. Good idea, but do we need another 20,000 media studies degrees? Do we need electricians on apprenticeship schemes? Again, another good idea that has been poorly thought out and ruined.Grants for environmental schemes like insulation. Great idea. But while they are there, paint the roof of the house white so it reflects heat back in the same way as the ice caps. There is more area of the planet covered by housing than by ice. As ice reduces, replace the reflective solar effect with other areas of white. It’s not far from where they are, but a million miles from where they are.
A new hope.

That could be achieved easilyLorries on motorways. The trailer has electric motors in the trailer unit with over head wires and a train style pantograph. Diesel only needs be used in towns and stored energy from braking on motorways acts as a start up like a Prius for trucks. We had trolley buses in city centres 50 years ago. There is no new tech needed to solve the problems. It’s there right here right now. In ten years, should we wish to achieve it we could reduce carbon by 80% in 7 years, almost the life time of Corbyns term in parliament. If he really wanted to make life better then here it is, a one off investment in the future
A new hope.
