Frank Swift (Man City & England)
Stanley Matthews (Stoke & England)
Billy Liddell (Liverpool & Scotland)
Alf Ramsey (Southampton & England)
Danny Blanchflower (Barnsley & N.I.)
John Charles (Leeds & Wales) (a teenager at the time)
Don Revie (Leicester & England)
Roy Bentley (Chelsea & England)
Albert Quixall (Wednesday & England)
Jackie Sewell (Wednesday & England)
Derek Dougan (Blackburn & N.I.)
Also, not sure, but I think Neil Franklin (England centre-half) may have played with Stoke when Matthews was here in 1945-46.
Someone mentioned Ray Middleton. Unfortunately, he never became a full international, but certainly played for the England 'B' team (against Switzerland if I remember correctly).

Yes, I know Channel Islands isn't a "country" as such, but you can't see them from the Isle of Wight!
I have Austin born Hackney...?
Let's begin stretching it a bit. I offer Shabani Bakar and Kweri Mingi, Mozambiquans (?) who trained with us in the 1970s. We were also offered Tewfik Abdullah, of Egypt, by Derby in the early 1920s, but turned them down.

Great stuff, Tom. For Tom and others: What's your "All comers" XI out of all of those you've seen play us here?

I heard a rumour that Best made his reserve team debut at Saltergate but it might be a myth. There must be a mighty small list of great international footballers that have played here.
Banks, Forlan, Best, Hitzelsburger............................errrrrrrrrrr!
Ward, Clinghan, Banks, Downes,........................errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

An incomplete lists of recent-ish foreign triallists who may not all have played at Saltergate:
1995-6:
Brenley Jefferd (Canadian?)
1999-0
"Kwik" Ajet (Nigeria.) How we mourned that he wasn't a keeper - then he'd have been "Kwik" Save.
Alain Kwedi Mbongo (Cameroon)
2000-1
Bjarni Larusson (Iceland)
2001-2
Stephane Leoni (France)
Jason Batty (New Zealand)
Rudy Torres, Fernando Garcia (Spain)
2003-4
Fahrudin Kuruzovic (Bosnia)
Desbon Bushiri (Burundi)
(I am not making these up, but some may be made-up names to protect the identies of traillists, I suppose.)
2004-5
Michael Ploeger (Holland)
Pablo D'Olivera (Brazil)
2005-6
Thomas Boden (Germany)
The Aforementioned Honour Gombami
Ahmel Tchakounte (Cameroon)

He has, but has he played for us on any sort of trial? My list of numbers was for players who had played for us in FL matches but if Burton has had any sort of trial here, I'd be keen to know more.

I think the order should be, played for us, played for someone else, managed someone else and then any tenuous links after that.

Please edit as you see fit. I've put a couple on there as a start. Please note that I cut and paste the list from the united nations list and it added entry dates and I can't be bothered to remove all of them so I think I got to Iraq and then got fed up.
Let me know if theres any problems.
