I had left school just after my 15th birthday and started an apprenticeship and had been working for 5 months when my dad passed away and I remember returning to work following bereavement leave on the Monday after the Stoke FA Cup game. I can't actually remember how long after returning to work it was but I know it wasn't too long and during a lunch break I noticed a picture of Stevo on the back of a Daily Mirror that a chap was reading along with the headline "Burnley sign Chesterfield keeper for £50,000 pounds." That was how I discovered he had left. He was so good it was inevitable that he would leave us at some point I suppose.
He always wore a light green jumper from when he took over from Alan Humphreys … as an 11 yearl old I convinced myself he always wore same actual shirt .
