Okay, under fifties won't know what I'm on about.

But the Harlem Globetrotters were a seventies basketball team who played exhibition stuff. They took the wet stuff against obviously inferior opponents.

Which is exactly how we looked at times today.

Credit to Southend - they came and had a right go. Caused us some proper problems at times, too. The one off the line a prime example.

Yet the first goal was a thing of absolute beauty, followed by an even better move.

Then Quigley's first-touch second saw them visibly wilt.

Daft thing is two of our most consistent performers were below their best today. The Mandeville who always gives an 'eight' down to a six - still palpably suffering the effects of his recent illness - and, astonishingly, Naylor only on a 'seven'.

What the hell....?

On the other hand DJ Oldaker just gets better. In fact can we now mention him in the same breath as Sam Morsey?

I think so.

Meanwhile Grimes and Williams were the epitome of cool, calm assurance.

As was the maturity of Jacobs.

Bromley have imploded. A bit like us this time last season. Barnet also blew a lead to become even less relevant.

January is a bleak and miserable month. However it's seen us all but confirm our place back in the EFL...

Excellent post which i totally agree with 99% of it. But DJ is not a Morsey. He has been MOM for the last 2 games but nowhere near the level of Morsey (yet)

😂😂 no. As much as I like Oldaker, Sam Morsy is currently captaining his team on the way to the Premier League..

I concur about Oldaker but IMO, we saw the best individual display by a CFC centre half for years today. If Williams had had his current attitude and self belief 6 years ago, with his pace he’d have been in the Championship. My MOM by miles.

He may not be Sam Morsy but at times today he played like Gerson. In a top class team like us, he’s playing with total confidence and looks a world beater.

Lets not get rose tinted glasses. Oldaker is a good player for this league, is unproven at league 2 or 1 level. Sam Morsey was the best midfielder in league 1 by a country mile, and is rightfully playing in the championship. They are IMO nowhere near in comparison.

So very true.
Not sure why folk are even comparing current players to L1 players. Let’s just enjoy what is becoming a fantastic season with momentum into 2024/25

I see a player that is very calm on the ball. A player that was being closed down very quickly by sometimes two players and still had the composure to lay it off or dance out of trouble. A player who constantly kept the ball moving and constantly looked for the ball. His confidence is flying high and deservedly so.
We needed a player to put Jones on the bench and now the coaches have developed Oldaker into that man.
Don't knock him.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

I’ve not heard anyone knock him: as I’ve said already he’s being playing great and for me MOM for the last 2 games. My comment was about folks comparing him to Morsey!! He isn’t anywhere near that level.

Oldaker has been playing consistently well since he came back into the starting eleven, and he's gone from disaster waiting to happen,to a player you can't drop. He knows that any drop in form, means the return of Jones in place of him, and he,is very consistent.

Oldaker did that very same job against Portsmouth. That was on the very same level that Morsey was doing it at. Just because he did it in one game doesn't mean he couldn't do it anymore. We've all seen that the standard in this league is so much better than it was 5 year ago as well.

He can be compared.

Seriously??

So let’s break that down shall we 5, 3, and 13 appearances across 3 seasons, most of which were sub appearances. Not exactly a picture of proven player at that level or he’d surely be starting or at least have more appearances and minutes on the pitch. He didn’t Which is why he got shipped off to national league south…. Morsey was playing 30+ games and starting and was one of the best midfielders in the league.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good player at this level but people throwing out comments like the two are on the same level or that he was proven as a teenager at L1 level because he made a number of sub appearances is quite frankly ridiculous.

Sorry Metallica’s, that statement has more holes in it than a colander. One was at the very top of his game and considered one of the best midfielders in league 1 the other is a good midfielder in the national league. The standard of opposition is very different. Are you saying the players in league 1 are no better than national league? On what basis can you make a realistic comparison ??
