Everyone has different circumstances but it essentially comes down to central government funding

Councils are laying people off left right and centre but are still expected to provide the same services It’s been happening since the 80s but has now accelerated in the last decade.
The country is falling apart

When they are allowed to take up employment they’ll be the countries wealth builders of the future. Great stuff

Absolutely, local councils can hardly contain their glee at having to find 1000 extra beds per day👏

Or Staveley.
I'm more concerned about our local council, they've been wasting money left right and centre and are now pleading poverty. The running of a local council has got nothing to do central government. Ours is run poorly.

Yeah because our council get no funding at all from Central Government.
CBC Funding
By the way, the Cafe Bar referred to and which is run by the council loses £55k+ a year.

All you’ve done is illustrated what a sham this levelling up fund is. Typical sticking plaster approach to a serious problem
A few million to tart up a few venues here and there is going to rejuvenate the local economy - my ass
Edit
To illustrate that last remark….
Michael Gove’s department is handing back £1.9bn to the Treasury originally meant to tackle England’s housing crisis after struggling to find projects to spend it on.
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has surrendered hundreds of millions of pounds budgeted for 2022-23, including £255m meant to fund new affordable housing and £245m meant to improve building safety.

If you read the articles you will come across one about millions received for Council House improvements in Chesterfield.
Listen, you are Labour through and through and you would never ever criticise the local council or the Labour Party and I get that, I really do and I respect your view. The thing is, I don't agree, I think our council overspends which is clear from their recent statements and their own admission and I think our council is poorly run but you absolutely can't accept that I should think differently from you. I am currently not a Labour supporter nor am I a fan of the Tories. I am not influanced by any party.
You should try and accept that people have a different opinion to you. You dont have to agree with them or try to belittle them just put your point across.

Perhaps you should employ those principles espoused in your last paragraph by not lecturing me and/or pigeonholing my beliefs and opinions.
Good day Sir

Please stop doing this, Mark.
Accusing folk of being hard line whilst claiming you're not. And using that accusation to somehow demean what they're saying.
Hell, we had this out when you dubbed local councillors "scum" simply 'cos none turned up at a meeting and advised everyone to vote Lib' Dem' based on one of their leaflets.
The Birmingham thing has specific causes. Namely the council being ordered to cough up three quarters of a billion by a judge. However tory Thurrock and Woking councils went bust following their high stake gambling with taxpayers cash.

I might take your, the Rowe fanboy's or anyone else's indignation a little more seriously had they uttered a word to condemn that.
CBC isn't going bust. But it is having to in some way balance books torn asunder by government cuts: https://www.theguard...-watchdog-warns
Cuts which have, surprise-surprise, targeted Labour areas harder than tory ones: https://www.theguard...than-tory-areas
Of course the greatest hypocrisy of all is supporters of a party which blew tens of billions on useless test and trace schemes, billions more on crony contracts, currently has a bloke in Number Ten who casually wrote off several billions defrauded following the likes of his 'Eat Out' scheme and has raised the national debt to almost one hundred percenr of GDP pointing fingers at the Opposition...
