I'm new to Bob's Board but supported the club since the early 60's so I've seen the great and the not so great in that time. From the present squad who do we think would cut it in the league above.

All of them to a degree, leagues are more or less the same.

Welcome anyway
God I hate this league.

It was assuming we'd left this dump of a league at the end of this coming season.

Thanks for the welcome and regards the squad I think you're right. Any other team in this league and the one above would have a game on their hands with this squad so long as they perform.

No teams been relegated from League 2 the season after promotion from the NL for 20 odd years which suggests the gaps not that big.
We’ve got a few who can definitely play at a higher level in my opinion - Dobra, Tyrer, Grigg, Naylor etc

Tyrer, in my opinion, is going to be a really good addition to the squad and also Everon's in the future. His positional sense is spot on and the sweeper keeper part of his game will come.

Our front 4 certainly. Banks and Taylor have played in the EFL. King I think this division is his level, infact I’d say the back 4 would likely need to be replaced if we went up next season.

I reckon the top 4 or 5 sides in this division would be able to survive in L2

Thanks, you're right Dobra only needs to start the season on fire and he'll have interest from championship sides. Left side of defence worries me although I'm hopeful that the two young backs we have kick on this season. As for the left centre back, Grimes is a decent NL centre half and if he was a 6ft plus racing greyhound he would be playing higher up the leagues.

King would certainly find it hard as a right full/wingback but he could certainly play as a right sided midfielder in the league above.

Surprised Colclough hasn't been mentioned. Comfortably good enough to thrive in the division above.

Colclough is definitely div 2 player at the least and could well play higher given the quality of the coaching staff we have. I can also see Hobson being the NL Gerrard and hopefully after this season he plays his part in our division two campaign.

I dont think any of our central defenders would cut it in l2. Its our main weakness in the current team IMO. Grimes just doesn’t seem to read or control situations effectively enough especially for a captain. Williams is ok at this level but not that commanding. Palmer is a better ball player but is inconsistent and liable to errors. But then there’s a reason they ply their trade at this level.

Grimes seems more assured with a stay at home fullback but with the incumbent trying to get forward he doesn't position himself to cover any threat. Both central defenders would look good if we played a lower defensive line but that's not about to happen. Picking up a young quick central defender on loan maybe the way to go but they don't come with experience.

I think we have enough to get us out of this division this season & the squad we have assembled would be sufficient to stay in the league above, as has been shown by the sides who have gone up in previous years.

If we wanted to challenge then I think defensively needs a rebuild, Clements for me is the only one with the potential to be a top of league 2/average league 1 player. The rest have their ceiling at a mid table league 2 side. I also think someone to play alongside Naylor would be required. Mandy/Dobs/Coco are very capable of playing in a promotion push in league 2. Time will tell with Will Grigg (people seem to be judging him on game time against League 1/Championship/Premier League defences).

Come on, we seen them in cup games against higher teams and the pre season friendlies. They are solid enough but do have issues the same as any players. Micro criticism in these leagues is pointless.

Uncalled for. His onfield attitude is second to none so I imagine you are referring to an incident 10 years ago.
