Doesn't sound like Brearley fits that, though.

Agreed, though wherever they're from they mustn't have any connections with the current incumbents, as I for one (and I sure I can speak for most from what I've gleamed off this board) won't trust them one bit!

Same names keep being mentioned, coming from insiders at the club. Graham Smyth also mentioned the same names in a recent article in the DT. He went as far as asking Brian Deane for a comment, but ‘he remained tight lipped’.
Confidentiality agreements clearly mean nothing can be confirmed, but confidentiality agreements don’t stretch to those who could deny the rumours.
It’s all conjecture and deduction, but it’s how most stories break, and keeps the press and TV stations in work. And gives some purpose to our message board.

Where I'm at is that if the package includes an ongoing financial burden to Allen then no thanks. The agreement must be that we are free of all obligations to Allen otherwise we'll find he has first charge on transfer fees, any other windfalls, and on all financial planning.

Little chance of that as I see it DV; it would need a Russian oligarch, or equivalent to take Allen out, even if he accepted less than a pound for a pound on his loans. One niggle I had about the 'Chinese Bid' is that they seemed to want deferred terms.

My guess is that is what the deal will be - they get the skimmed milk and he gets the cream.
The suspicion is that this group is hand picked to do just that.

Thing is, why would anybody want to buy CFC? Only reason I can see is if you're a fan, and I doubt there's any of them lining up with the money.
We're in the basement but it's not the bargain basement by any means: DA won't be giving it away we may be sure, so it's not an opportunity to buy cheap in the interests of a profit, quick or otherwise.
Nor is there the realistic opportunity to take the club into the serious profit regions long or medium term. Sure, miracles happen, but it won't have been lost on any sensible millionaire that DA gave up on a similar project without coming anywhere near the crowds needed even for Championship survival.
Anybody wanting just to buy into a football club for the fun of it, and with the kind of money that could buy us and sustain us would be welcomed with open arms at many clubs that seem to offer better prospects.
So to come back to the point, WHY? If it's not because you love the club, and not to make money, why would you want it?
I'd buy it tomorrow if I won the lottery, but there aren't many nutters who want to chuck money into a bottomless pit.
I'd really love anybody who knows the answer to tell us and give us a bit of hope, because as far as I can see, and whatever your opinion of him, DA is quite possibly the best we can expect.

You said the same thing 7 years ago. Then Dave Allen stepped forward.
New owners will come and go, and you’ll still be trotting out the same tired old lines

Dave Allen saw the chance of a profit and local celebrity status. It didn't work out because the land price for Saltergate fell suddenly and dramatically, but at least he got the celebrity status until it went pear-shaped.
And I'd still like to know why anybody would want to buy CFC now, but obvioiusly expecting you to supply a sensible answer was pushing it a bit.

Given our position, you would expect that the sale price/bargaining position has improved, attracting potential buyers. The facilities/infrastructure is good and the fan base is good (league position dictating) despite bigger teams within a 15 mile radius (Mansfield not included).
My worry over this latest consortium is their long term plans and what allowances/conditions have been imposed/agreed to get the takeover through i.e. you can have the footballing side of the club for x and pay me x annually in loan repayment but I still own the ground and catering/entertainment side of the business.

Areason for buying it now?
Well if someone could get a grip on the finances while allowing Jack to build a decent side.....well in your own words they might see a profit and have some celebrity status.

As a reason for investing 8 million quid and following it up with whatever handouts become necessary that prospectus isn't going to lure anybody.

The other bit of gloom I might have added is why now? The club's been for sale for years, so why the sudden interest in buying it now, when we've at least a 50/50 chance of going down, with all the oppotunities to lose money which that offers.
I appreciate that DA must have lowered the asking price because of the current mess, but to reflect the risk involved he'd have to almost give the club away.
Just can't see anybody with the long term interests of CFC at heart coming near the place. Still, we can dream.
