I agree. I think he is more than capable. He needs a centre half with pace alongside him, at least one full back covering and a bit of cover in centre mid. A lot of our problems came from us being a bit too gung ho.

Yes, the defensive line was very high, and it's difficult to react to the ball over the top when we have a back four who aren't blessed with pace, apart from Freckleton that is. I think the line will be slightly lower this next season though, without affecting Cook's attacking style too much.
I've heard Freckleton is coming back, but the guy who told me hasn't always got it right, so I take what he says with a shovel of salt.

We certainly need a right sided centre back with pace or an apprentice to Mike Jones who has explosive acceleration.

Just a thought, would Shayne Lavery (just released from Blackpool) do a job for us?

He said on the podcast he would like to come back at some point. If Cook wants him (and you would have to assume he likely will) then let's see if he's as good as his word.

This would be his last chance then, it’d be quite the marquee signing

Would we better looking at Anthony Hartigan? Released by Stags after a season on loan at Barnet, where he was their player of the season and picked by his fellow pros for the NL team of the season? Aged 24.

It’s got to be right for us too, he’s only played around 25 games a season in the last 4 seasons. If he’s still as versatile as when he left us (left back, left midfield, upfront) then he’d be a good squad player in the 22 but wages v injury record etc. need to be factored in.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

Is there an extrapolative formula for wages set against past appearances, set against future predictions, set against other club's offers set against the player's preferred geog location set against the clubs budget?

I'm sure we could agree something!

Just a thought would x be able to do a job for us?

FFS I hate close season, post after post of drivel, made up bunkum and pie in the sky links (Morsy - yeah right).

Get the retained list out for some serious pulling of hair, gnashing of teeth and claims of 'we're doomed' to start ringing out.

Roll on August.

I'm assuming he's a defensive mid a la Mike Jones - only asking this as hardly scored any goal or had any assists from midfield.
If so, possibly worth a look to see if he could be the 'apprentice' to Mike Jones.
Played a full season at Barnet under a decent manager and they were up there playing decent stuff.

That's tbe gamble.
I've got heart ruling head on this one as Clucas was one of my favourite players.
But taking a step back, his fitness level/ games played would be a factor.
Maybe Liam Richardson could give his take on SC to Cook as Richardson signed him for Rotherham.
If we could get a fair chuck of the season out of him, he'd be an great signing for L2.
But, then you'd have to start looking at the balance of the squad as we'd be adding another midfielder (albeit a versatile player)

Are you rate? When did I say you couldn’t have an opinion? I’m aloud to have an opinion on your opinion as well. Madden getting in the refs face after Kings tackle is no reason whatsoever to judge him on about three years later. King himself is certainly no saint. Some proper fannies on here, mad really when average age must be about 83.

Edit - was that constructive enough for you?

Could clucas be the defence mid? Played there for Hull didn't he?
