We know vocal support can lift the side, but does it matter WHAT the chant is?

Watching the Burnley program now - and it showed Burnley fans singing “stand up for kompany”

Made me think, would stand up for company he rousing for the players?

So to us, what “song” is likely to rouse our players more than others?

We are sailing?

Come on you blues?

Putting on a show?

Individual things for players?

Paul Cooks barmy Army?

The claps followed by “spireites”

Just the “roar of the crowd” when a corner/free kick/foul etc is given?

I reckon Tooley or Fisher could ask cookie? If there’s something the manager feels gives more of an edge?

It would be proper interesting to get a manager/player view on what the crowd chant/sing and how that has an impact on the pitch

If I were a player, hearing people sing my name would probably make me feel better. Whether it would improve my performance I'm not sure, but it wouldn't make it worse.

Generally though I think the impact of the crowd is very minimal.

I'm sure Danny Webb has said he likes We are Sailing because it's only done once or twice a game

Minimal in the sense that the crowd doesn't physically execute any of the sport but the impact of a crowd on performance is undeniable. The countless examples of different sportspeople mentioning the crowd as a factor in their performances can't all just be lip service to a paying public. From my own experience of running in events, I would get a mental boost, which would manifest in a physical boost from any sort of encouragement from the sidelines, particularly if someone specifically called my name. The weird lack of noise won't have been the only reason that lockdown sport was less entertaining than what we get now.

When I ran the London Marathon in 2021, the support was absolutely incredible. 100% got me to the end when I really started to struggle at 21/22 miles.

The chant of “Lawrence Maguire” helped boost the performance on Monday 😊

Certainly seemed to boost his exit from the club.
