If we'd offered 50 then PNE would've trumped us and then there's the matter of wages. He was never coming here.

Think we should get the business trading in profit before we go speculating Mr Hindsight.

The Manager cocked-up with Johnson and knows so.
It was a simple mistake not making more effort to sign him, nothing more or less.

That's his 9th in 17 games for Oldham then Preston. Made me laugh how some of our fans, when he was playing for us, commented that he would never be 'a scorer of goals', just because he had some bad luck with his efforts when here. One could see he had an eye for goal.

How do you know it was a mistake by the manager? Inside information?
In interviews, Cook appeared to indicate that the player was out of our reach.

Just gossip, pal.
And for what it's worth I'm not slating Cook; some y'win, some y'lose.
By the way, more gossip suggests there'll be a major clearout over the Summer with recruits both recent and longer term moved on.

I'd get Hird tied to a longer deal ASAP

Not too many "recent ones" Chris unless "recent" includes those signed before the start of this season.
