Is there any need for us to have made this announcement?

Whats wrong with it? Publically stating why we rate him so highly, and that we'll not be bullied into, nor needing to accept, an offer that doesn't meet our valuation. Sends a message out there that if you want our player then you have to cough up.

There is also another point in that this statement will fuel the fire arround Cooper. Suggesting we know there are a number of interested clubs, we are willing to sell, but ONLY at the right price.

I'd have thought rejecting their first 2 bids would have done that to be honest

Wasn't sure where to put this, but:

@AlanBiggs1: PS on Chesterfield. Financial realities have to be faced. Think most supporters understand that. Word is chairman DA has chipped in again.

He chips in every season at this time until matchday income starts to come in.
God I hate this league.

So, would we have £250k to strengthen plus Coopers £2500 a week wages and £250k debt reduction or keep Cooper?

Well we don't know what his wages are for a start but I'd still rather keep him.

I would rather keep him, have him sign a new contract (significant that he's the only one who hasn't?) so we retain a saleable asset for the future.

Then trust in Armand

Aye, fair point. Well for arguments sake let's say 2.5k p/w, I'd still keep him, I think he has a huge part to play this season (hardly the riskiest of predictions I know).

Without his signature on a new contract, quite rightly, he's on his bike..

At the end of the season? Yeah, that's the most likely scenario but I think survival in League 1 has to be the aim regardless of whether we lose him for nothing (or a small tribunal fee).

There'd be plenty of compo, Leeds have bid £475k, tribunal would be aware of that

Has a CFC player/players signed contract extensions in the past to ensure the club gets a fee for them? Or maybe I imagined that.

Caleb Folan did it didnt he. Seem to remember Pollitt waved something he was entitled to as well when he left so the club got money for him.

If thats true maybe only Leeds are interested. Not sure why that should be - or why we dont seem to get bids for Tommy.

Ian Evatt did as well before being transferred to QPR I think.
