B****Y hell, John is a very close friend and we spoke often on the phone. He was very open about his illness but it seems the seriousness of the situation wasn't apparent or he chose not to convey it to me. We attended away games together and always John was very good company. John was apprentice to my dad at Williamthorpe colliery thus our friendship.

My sincere condolences go to John's family at this very sad time and we are saying goodbye to a good man who leaves a lovely family.

Could someone kindly post details of funeral dates as and when thanx.

God bless old friend.

Very nicely put Dave.

RIP fellow Spireite.

Big John Boag aka 'Limestone Cowboy' has sadly passed away after a battle with Cancer. The truest of Blues,he was a regular home and away, seated in the East Stand, halfway line.Always had time for a chat, and being a Holmewooder,we always shared memories.RIP John

Remember him as a customer always willing to have a chat when buying 50/50 from me and as an infrequent contributor on this site, too (Limestone Cowboy)

RIP John

I had the pleasure of sitting with John on the coach journeys to and from Harrogate. The 1-1 draw. What a lovely bloke. He'll be sorely missed by all those who were close to him. RIP Cowboy.

The club covered his sad passing with a photo

I didn't know him personally but recognised him from the East Stand, he started following me on Twitter so I followed him back.

RIP John

Used to sit in the next block to me,RIP chap.
